Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G 64 GB
Advantages: Too many to mention
Disadvantages: Low res webcam
I've had iPads since August 2010. I work as a musician abroad, and sometimes need to carry a lot of music around with me - so I bought the first iPad wifi only, 64gb. I use it to read pdfs from, as opposed to books. Saves megabucks on excess baggage charges!!
Anyway, the problem with that iPad was that it had no webcam, and the page turns were a little slow. Also, having wifi only meant internet was limited to when I was in range of wifi - plus I couldn't video Skype with home.
Cue the iPad2 64GB wifi+3G. It cost me £659 in Sep 2011. Paying the extra £100 for the 3G was worth every penny, as it has liberated me - I can be in the sticks and watch a film, or call someone visually via skype.
I have to say the webcam on this one is not terribly hi resolution - iPad3 has addressed this I'm told.
Also, the ipad2 is lighter, thinner, and a lot faster on the page turns than the ipad1.
Of particular note is the speaker, which has exceptional clarity. For example, there's the end of a 'Yes Minister' episode where the dialogue is unintelligable - until I watched it on this iPad where I could hear every word.
I recommend getting one of the cases that fold into a stand. I chose the invision one on amazon because it covers the back as well and is a quarter of the price of apple's own magnetic cover.
If you want the basic benefits of a computer and books, without the bulk, the iPad2 is an excellent solution.
Summary: A wonderful device
