Advantages: it has a nice design
Disadvantages: too big to be portable, and it still dependant on a laptop
I have to confess I am quite the apple products fan, I pretty much own almost every product they have on the market and sometimes I buy some that I do not even need. That was the case with this iPad which was not cheap at all and I would even say it was a waste of money in view of the use I have gotten out to it. The price of the one I bought which is the wi-fi 16 GB one is 400 pounds, even if it is the cheapest version.
Now, the design is quite impressive. Mine is white and it has a very sleek back, and on the front it is glossy which makes it really beautiful and it stands out. Although it is very slim I have to say I was surprised with how heavy it is and I have weak wrists so I always had to rest it on something.
The specifications of this device are really good. It has a nice retina display, a long lasting battery which sometimes seems endless, a very fast dual core, a front and back camera which are intended for skyping only. Please do not use them to take pictures in museums or sports events. It just looks ridiculous because there are way better and smaller devices to do this function, like digital cameras!
My main issue with this device is that I just cannot find it a use for it. When I need a bigger screen and better functions than the iphone I just take my laptop which has USB ports unlike the iPad. Otherwise, I prefer having more portability and more basic functions I just take my iphone which is also, as its name says it, a phone. So the iPad stays in the air because of course it is lighter and easier to use than a laptop, but it will still require putting it in a bag or being busy with it on your hands all the time and I find it awkward to type with since you can't really use your thumbs. Also because it is pretty much an ipod touch with a bigger screen. You can use the same applications either on an iphone or ipod touch and the experience will not be too different.
So since I did not use it much, I opted for giving it to my grandparents who actually find it easier than having a laptop where they have to type what they want which sometimes is a bit of a hassle for them, and the interface of the iPad is very simple. With the ipad they find it very easy to just touch whatever they want. In this case the ipad is easier to handle than an iphone as the screen is bigger so they will find it more friendly to their vision limitations. Plus it's lighter and more portable than a laptop so they just take it with them to watch TV or on the dinner table to skype. They don't need amazing specifications or a huge hard drive laptop so the iPad is fine for them.
All in all I consider this product cool and beautifully designed, but it is a bit useless unless you want to give it to your elders who may find it easier to handle than computers or if you don't have a laptop and don't need to store photos or work on a device. I would advise more to get an iphone and as its more comfortable placing it in your pocket, plus it's a phone too!
Summary: your grand parents might find it useful since it is easier to handle than a laptop.
