Advantages: Better than cheaper equivalents, Good Screen, App Store, Great Battery
Disadvantages: Expensive, No camera, Fingernails don't work on screen
The iPad is a very expensive tablet computer by Apple. I believe it is one of the best tablets out there and in this review I will be explaining my reasons to believe this.
The iPad itself:
The back of the iPad is made of a brushed metal much like the iPod Nano I reviewed. The sides and top are made of the same material and have some buttons on them. On the right there is a volume rocker and a screen rotation lock. On the top there is only a power/sleep button. The left side has no button. The front features the famous single home button and a 9.7inch glass capacitive screen (like Apples other touchscreen iDevices).
The iPad runs on Apple's proprietary iOS operating system. (Version 4.3.5 is latest as of 02/08/2011)
The iOS operating system runs superbly on the iPad ( because it is optimized for this tablet unlike cheaper Android tablets). The operating system comes with all the basic "Apps" that are found on iPhone and iPod Touch. Safari stays the same as before and still doesn't support flash!!!
The most advertised feature is the revolutionary App Store where you can purchase "Apps" and Games for little to no money. The apps can be extremely useful or very pointless. Games are also available (ones made for the iPad are usually labelled HD). Apps designed for iPhones are usually overstretched to fit on the screen.
The battery life is pretty much the same as the iPhone 3G S. You can watch up to 10 hours of video playback on a single charge which is a lot better than the Android equivalents that give around 2 hours of light use! Unfortunately (like all apple products) the battery is non-replaceable so if it develops a battery fault you will have to go to your nearest Apple Workshop.
The screen on the iPad is truly excellent in brightness and sharpness, it runs at a satisfactory 1024x768 which is the most used resolution in the world (as of 05/08/11) so web browsing looks correct (unless flash is used as mentioned before). The screen is very responsive and navigating through operating is easy with no lag or glitches at all! The multi touch is so good that you can even have 2 player table hockey games (FS5) on the same screen! For some reason it doesn't work at all with fingernails (not good for greasy hands or women!)
Summary: A great product but the same as the cheaper iPod Touch
