Advantages: Flash browser support, quad core, battery life
Disadvantages: GPS is a bit hit and miss... Ice Cream Sandwich is in its infancy
I see this device as the thinking man's iPad. Want a fast, lightweight tablet that supports 100% of the Internet? Well, look no further...
I also own the original version of this, the TF101, and the improvements are noticeable. Let's start with the positives:
Weight: even with the dock, this thing is light. The tablet itself is fractionally heavier than the iPad, but it isn't noticeable, and does not compromise in build quality- this is still a solid bit of kit.
Speed: a Quad-core CPU, coupled with the latest version of Android software (Ice Cream Sandwich- a free update from Asus, pushed out as soon as your tablet is connected to the Internet for the first time), makes this blazingly fast. Try just changing the orientation of the screen and watch the response time.
Battery: when coupled to the dock, this tablet churns out 18hrs of life- anyone planning a long plane journey?
Browser: the browser on this tablet supports Flash, so you can freely mock iPad users as they struggle to run any Flash based sites on their browser. As time goes on, and sites move towards HTML5, this will become less of an issue, but for the moment enjoy the advantage!
Camera(s): both the front and rear cameras on the Transformer are excellent- I've used this to Skype and Web Conference all the time and the quality is far superior to others I'm calling to. For stills photography, the included flash allows great pictures in low light conditions.
The bad? Well, I can honestly say there is very little I would change. The Champagne colour option isn't for me, and I find the GPS isn't as accurate as the original version, but I've noticed this has improved with each software update.
Summary: Don't follow the iSheep, get the Transformer!
