Advantages: feels comfortable, crystal clear display, easy to navigate menus
Disadvantages: Let down by Blackberry desktop software
Ahhh Blackberry [Homor Simpson style] I have always loved these phones and I really enjoy using the new Bold 9000.
Before starting with the gadgets and widgets let me cover the basics, the look and feel. Previous Berries that I have owned always felt plastic, very light weight, cheap and not the best looking. But we can't forget the target market and for the 'on the go' businessman it's a perfect companion. However I always felt let down, aesthetically, when using them, to me quality comes in three shapes for a business phone, look, feel and weight.
And for look and feel the 9000 really ranks high, I like to feel what I have in my hand and not think its going to break or the ball free itself from the cradle securing it. It's not to heavy for your pocket or to cumbersome to sit well in your hand - it feels quite ergonomic, albeit square!
The display is crystal clear and has a vibrant colour scheme, the menu has been made alot more navigable due to the sturdy tracker ball. You no longer end up over scrolling and becoming frustrated like earlier versions. Some of the setup functions are still hidden away but perserverance and previous Berry experience makes it less of a heartache.
So all is well with the Berry 9000, well not quite?
The desktop software released by Blackberry, version 8 is still just as aweful as previous versions to the point where it is totally useless. Support from Blackberry online I hear you say, no is the answer - no support at all!
The camera isn't that great either, something misera-pixel I think, but then again the argument is why do you want a camera on a business phone and that answers that question and puts this downfall to bed.
If you like tweeting, forget it on the Blackberry, there aren't any decent twitterberry apps available at the moment, so thank god the camera is aweful too!
Other than this - great phone. The pad is really nice to touch and easy to compose emails as the buttons are positioned and angled to perfection. Ihave found the batter life to be slightly better as well than on previous versions that I have used.
So if you want a Blackberry forget the chrome and be Bold and go for the 9000 you won't be disappointed.
