Advantages: A reliable, easy to use communications system- and aid to memory.
Disadvantages: None
I have owned a Blackberry Bold Smart phone, now, for just a little over a month. A marvelous pocket sized gadget ideal for people like myself, who wish to receive their emails on the Blackberry, as and when they arrive on the PC, without having to sit glued to the screen. It could almost be described as a pocket sized secretary.
The Blackberry Bold has all the usual functions of any regular mobile, plus a great deal more. It functions as a calculator, diary, video camera, stills camera, voice recorder and it also features a very useful Sat Nav application.
It is a miniature computer with unlimited internet access and an easy to use Qwerty keyboard on which one can use to send emails, even when sat on a bus. (if need be - Heaven forbid.)
Texting is so much easier and quicker too with the qwerty layout. As I said earlier, The Blackberry has all the features of any mobile phone and much, much more.
I was pleasantly surprised when, after adding to the 'contacts' application, all the details I need to have on hand such as addresses, birthdates and phone numbers, that a few days later the Blackberry, buzzed and reminded me to act on the information given. I had assumed that I had to keep checking - like one would with a diary. Not only that!! I had entered a few dates for future events such as dental appointments; once again, my Blackberry buzzed me a reminder.
The Sat Nav is very good, Albeit a little slow in locating the initial location, but once it has found you, it efficiently guides you to your destination.
With this, came 18 months free service , afterwhich, if I wish to keep the Sat Nav application, I will be required to pay extra. However, I have a separate Navigation system so will not feel the need to continue after the 18 months are up.
There is a (free) separate 'Maps,' application, whereby when an address is entered into the contacts page; You can then, by pressing the trackball, reveal options, one of which is to display a map of the location of that address.
Up-to-date road maps for any location in Britain, all packed into this little device, beats having to cart around a large book of maps - which become outdated very quickly these days.
Now, I am not exactly as with it (technically) as a teenager, infact I was straddling the 'Technophobe-line' having resisted even considering owning an ordinary mobile phone until I was kicked into the twenty first century by my Nephew! So, you see how simple this Smart phone is to understand and navigate. Having said that, I was helped tremendousley by the staff at the Vodafone shop where I ordered my gadget! By the way, my nephew hasn't got one of these yet - Never thought I would be ahead of him with regards to mobiles.
I believe that they can be purchased on a pay-as-you-go tarrif. However, my handset was free when on a two year contract with Vodafone. I get 700 minutes free phone time to landlines or mobiles, and 200 free texts per month. All I pay for really is the monthly rental of the hanset.
After two years, vodafone will update the handset. I am really, really pleased with my handy little/big gadget, which I can certainly recommend. I have not listed all the features included in this package, just some of the more important and interesting ones - must leave somethings for you to discover for yourselves should you decide to own one.
Summary: It will be a very long time before this Smart Phone is out-smarted
