Advantages: Good battery life, great browsing, great device
Disadvantages: Gets fingerprints on it easily, expensive
When this device first came on the market, I was very excited to try it out, as i had wanted an iPad, but felt it too big for carrying around. I bought my PlayBook about 5 months ago now for £250 and i have to say i do regret spending that money.
The device its self is stunning, sleek and small, with an amazingly responsive touchscreen.
It features 2 cameras, a front and a rear-facing one, both of which are perfect in good light conditions, and a little grainy in darker conditions.
Browsing on this device is a dream - it plays flash unlike the iPad - and loads quickly. When using a feature called BlackBerry Bridge, i can use bluetooth to pair it with my BlackBerry Torch, and use the internet even when I'm not using wifi.
BlackBerry bridge also enables you to use BBM and email on the device, and look at files from your phone. This is good for some quick editing, and the device is lovely to type on.
This is also a drawback however, as email is not actually stored on the Playbook to ensure safety of information, meaning that without the bridge, one must use the internet to access email.
There are lots of apps available for the PlayBook, more than for BlackBerry phones, but by far not as many as available for the iPad.
The media player is exceedingly good, and movies are clear and crisp. The native Kobo e reader app is also a valuable addition, and some free books are available.
Navigating around the PlayBook is a dream, with natural feeling sweeping moves to control the apps, and the multitasking on the PlayBook is phenomenal.
The battery life of this device is also quite good, and i can leave it dormant but on for a few days and the battery does not totally run out.
The reason why i do not feel that this is a good buy for me is that it is surplus to requirements - i have a MacBook Pro and the only time that my Playbook is better than my MBP is when I'm out and about and i do not travel very often. If you are a person who travels though, this would be a great investment.
Summary: An excellent device especially to someone who travels
