Google Nexus 7
Advantages: Processor, screen, battery-life
Disadvantages: Poor front-facing camera, no rear-view camera
After 8 months of daily use, I think it deserves a review. My verdict is that the Nexus 7 is the best 7" tablet out there, at an equally great price. Got it when the 32GB version got launched and got myself one just a few days after. What can I say? It's fantastic. I use it every morning and evening in bed, so that's around 2 hours per day for browsing, watching videos, using it as a PC remote and checking emails. I can easily get 8 hours out of it. After watching an almost 3 hour movie, I still got 91% battery left. The screen is great, sharp and well-lit, also very responsive. Some reviews have mentioned it having the tendency to come apart from its body, however, while that's probably true given the small signs of that happening to mine as well, just after a week or so, a good leather case took care of that. Given the quad core processor it features, applications and games run with ease. So do HD videos, so performance-wise it delivers without any issues. The design is nothing to write home about, but it's easy to hold, doesn't feel heavy at all. Something that some would call a downside is the lack of a decent camera. The front-facing camera is effectively a webcam, and that's all when it comes to cameras. No rear-view camera. While that's not an issue, the front-facing one could have had a 2 or 3 Mpx sensor. While sound is not extremely loud, it is loud enough and and of acceptable quality as well for most people. The OS gets all the latest updates directly from Google which is something you can always show off with. ;)
Summary: After eight months I still consider it the best 7" tablet out there.
