Advantages: Ease of use, software, speed, connectivity
Disadvantages: noe I can think of !
I've had my Jornada 545 for a few months now, and I can honestly say that it's the most useful & reliable PDA that I've had. I had a 3Com Palm IIIe before, but it's way behind in comparison !! The revised pocket pc OS (which is really just a revised Win CE) works well, and the menus & functionality are 2nd nature if you're used to a Windows OS. The PDA has Word, Excel, MS Money, & MS Reader (& more !) built in, together with the usual contacts, calander, tasks etc. The whole lot also synchronises well with a pc (via USB or serial). Mine came with a 56k modem, which fits into the slot 1 in the top, and connection to the net is ok, although a bit slow if you connect to a site with heavy graphics. However, for email, & Yahoo Messenger, it's great. It also connects with Avant Go, so you can download a whole lot of info & view it offline... The main reason I bought the Jornada is because of the inclusion of Windows Media Player. It's great for playing mp3's, and also bundled with the software is MS Media Manager to covert mp3 to wma files, which basically means the music files take up half the space, with little sound degradation (that I can hear !). However, in order to get any decent amount of music in memory, you need to buy a compact flash card. Although these are expensive initally (I got 48 megs for £50), you can erase & start again as often as you like. I also changed the headphones, as the supplied set are the 'in ear' type, which are hopeless for me. All in all, I'd rate the Jornada 545 5-stars, and would recommend it to anyone that needs a pda with a bit extra. The colour display is clear, and the data input using the handwriting recognition software is very good.
