I have several software application running and it works like a treat. I can recieve faxes on the move and dial up the internet from my mobile phone. The expansion slot is a compact flash type I and there is a device in japan which will make it a type II. The first and so far only pda I’ve ever owned is the Jornada 545. And I must say, it’s extremely good value. I’ll try and write this opinion so that it’s most helpful for first time buyers of a pda (like I was), as I think the 545 is the best pda for a first time user/buyer. The Jornada 545 was one of the launching machines for Microsoft’s ‘pocket pc’ this is really an upgraded version of Win CE (Win CE 3.0). Before pocket pc, Win Ce was extremely slow, and lacked features, and so it didn’t really take off. Because of that, Microsoft decided to give it a new name in hope that people would forget it’s ...

I've had my Jornada 545 for a few months now, and I can honestly say that it's the most useful & reliable PDA that I've had. I had a 3Com Palm IIIe before, but it's way behind in comparison !! The revised pocket pc OS (which is really just a revised Win CE) works well, and the menus & functionality are 2nd nature if you're used to a Windows OS. The PDA has Word, Excel, MS Money, & MS Reader (& more !) built in, together with the usual contacts, calander, tasks etc. The whole lot also synchronises well with a pc (via USB or serial). Mine came with a 56k modem, which fits into the slot 1 in the top, and connection to the net is ok, ...

The Jornada 545 pocket pc was one of the launch machines for the new microsoft operating system. The Jornada has an SH3 133MHz processor and has 16MB RAM. It has good sound, and is capable of displaying 4,000 colours. 16MB RAM is not acceptable. The Jornada 548 has 32MB but costs over £80 more. Seeing as mp3 takes up a MB per min you can only have about 16 mins of music, or 4 tracks. And if you want to take advantage of other types of media that the new OS boasts then you won't have enough room, with e-books and mpeg video taking up a lot of memory. Only 32MB will do.
