Advantages: Easy to use, looks good, long battery life
Disadvantages: Really is just another unnecessary gadget to clutter your home
I have to say I was pretty sceptical about tablet pc's when they started to come on the market, especially given how much they cost. Granted you look pretty slick zipping around with your finger on the screen, but I often find that the performance of them is pretty flimsy for the price you pay. My other half recently decided to ignore all of this and go and buy one of these HTC Flyers. We got the 16GB model, which retails for around £450 depending on which retailer you use. The screen is a mere 7inches, but then I think this makes it much more portable than an iPad. Ours also came with a digital pen or stylus that makes touching up photos and drawing very simple. We got ours with just WiFi capability because we didn't want to pay for an additional subscription. The flyer comes with 1GB RAM anda 16GB memory, with options for additional memory storage such as an SD card or USB flash drive. The device is very light, under 500g and so can easily be slipped into a bag and carried around. The battery lasts a long time even when using it all day, you would only need to charge it once at the end of the day. Performance is good too, with everything working very quickly and seamlessly.
Having said all this I still wonder whether you actually need to buy one of these. Yes they look very good and they work well for doing the odd bits and pieces, but I can't imagine sitting and working on this all day. I also don't like the fingerprints left on the screen when you're not using the stylus. I think before buying one of these you should consider what sort of laptop you could buy for £450 - a quick look on currys website shows that you could get something with 6GB RAM and a 750GB harddrive.......so is this tablet really a good use of your hard earned cash?? I remain to be convinced!
Summary: A good product that could rival the other tablets, but not really a necessity!
