The Surface, for me, is the best of both a laptop and tablet combined into one stylish device. Whilst the camera is fairly poor, this is definitely compensated for by the easy to use interface and how lightweight the device is. It is perfect for college/university students as it is extremely portable. The only issue I have had so far is an occasional unwillingness to load and browse Chrome web pages - definitely more suited to Internet Explorer, but all in all, a fantastic purchase. The ability to use a magnetic keyboard is certainly a huge bonus as this keeps weight down whilst promoting functionality. 'One note' compatibility is definitely an advantage as it works seamlessly with the very responsive pen and touch screen, perfect for college projects, planning presentations etc. I find the surface to have a very good battery life and would absolutely recommend the device without qualms.
Purchased this tablet just over a month ago and so far have had almost all positive experiences with it. While i have only been using this for personal use, working in IT I can see exactly how this would be great in the majority of work environments. The graphical power of this machine is more than enough to play alot of games well if that's your thing, since this runs full windows 8 you get access to the full backlog of windows software. Where this machine really shines though is its portability and its versatility. More often than not I have been finding myself using this to watch a show on Netflix, and then immediately flipping the type cover (which i highly recommend) and running my social media or any work i have needed to do. The only thing i have found which slightly bothers me is the battery life isn't that of higher end notebooks. However it is't enough to detract from the machines positive points. Would recommend this to anyone
Microsoft Surface Pro is a Hybrid device that aims to fit in with your modern computing needs. The Surface pro offers the option to be used as your primary laptop computer whilst at the same time offering you the option to use the device as a tablet. The Surface Pro has an 10.6 inch screen and is 173mm by 275mm making it around the same size as the Apple iPad 4 (It's closest rival). However to get your money's worth from this product and turn it into a laptop computer you have to purchase one of Microsoft's keyboard covers. The keyboard cover acts as a cover to protect the products screen whilst doubling up as a keyboard for when you need to write the odd letter or two. With a weight of 910g it's heavier that the iPad 4, but does this really make a difference? The Surface Pro boasts an Intel Core i5 dual core processor which provides you with around 1.7GHz of processing power or 2.6GHz in "Turbo Mode". Graphics wise it has an integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card which is powerful enough to run the latest games! With 4GB of RAM and a 64GB or 128GB hard drive you should be able to install all the programs you need whilst the RAM will allow you to have multiple applications open at once (great for multi-tasking)!! It's has both front and rear 720p cameras which is great as you can easily take pictures whilst also allowing you to use programmes such as Skype whilst on the go. The Surface Pro can also be connected to an external screen so when you get home or to the office you can connect it to an external display. Whilst on the subject of displays the surface pro boasts a full 1080p display which is great if you want to watch HD movies or play detailed games whilst on the go. You also get included a Wacom-based stylus which gives you extra control and functionality if you wanted to use programmes such as Adobe Photoshop. Unlike the Apple iPad the Surface Pro also has a USB 3.0 and a microSD port, which is handy for when your camera runs out of storage or you need to transfer files from one device to another. It also boasts Bluetooth 4.0 and built in Wi-Fi. Battery life wise we found it to be slightly less that the iPad at around 5-6 hours. With a price tag of £779.00 there not exactly cheap but if you want to have a tablet and a computer all rolled into one then this is the device for you! In conclusion there's a lot to consider with this device as you have to purchase extras such as the keyboard which will take the price into the upper £800 mark. It all comes down to whether you want an easily portable laptop and tablet or whether you just want either a laptop or a tablet. Overall we found it to be a good device that is well worth the money and we found the dual functionality extremely handy especially when replying to emails whilst out and about.
