      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Overall a good phone kinda like a small laptop not all the features but very compact compared

      O2 XDA Exec

I have had this phone now for 18 months on a contract with o2. The phone is a robust clamshell design but the screen can also be pivoted to make the phone into a more traditional PDA look. As the screen turns the display is orientation is rotated ie for clamshell operation WxH 640 x 480 and for the traditional PDA operation WxH 480x640.

The screen is the nifty thing about this device firstly it a VGA display displaying 65000 colours that are vibrant and clear. Secondly its touchscreen for ease of use is great it can be operated either by the inbuilt stylus that you can slide out or with your finger. The touchscreen also means that with the stylus you can write in your own handwriting and the O2 XDA exec will convert the handwriting to text which in my opinion is pretty amazing. You can also train the exec to recognise similar characters such as O or 0 1 or I etc but I found out of the box it did a very good job with me in fact I purposely wrote in a scrawl and was very impressed with the intelligence it displayed at converting my writing to text.

The operation is pretty much like other windows mobile devices there are programs that user of Microsoft Windows and Office will be familiar with. There is a start menu from which you can launch applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet explorer so you can get your email and SMS/MMS on the move. There are also other programs such as contacts which unsurprisingly is where you can put all you phone number and addresses.

The real beauty of this device for me is that it follows a tradition on windows mobile devices in that it can be synchronised via Microsoft Activesync to your PC at home. At the end of the day you can plug the O2 exec's mini usb port into a Windows XP or Vista machine and synchronise all your contacts information, notes, addresses and meetings in you calendar with the Microsoft Outlook on your PC.

You can use the Wi Fi to connect to a hotspot or even do some surfing at home/work and the display is great

      Pros
A full qwerty keyboard its fully functional and even with my big fingers I have no trouble typing at a good speed.
True 640 x 480 VGA screen (Its razor sharp as well)
      Bluetooth
      Wi-Fi
      USB Mini input/output port
Great Software Loads of freeware applications (just about anything you can think of)
      Pocket Word
      Pocket Excel
      Pocket Outlook
Synchronisation with pc at home/work with minimal fuss.
      Supports polyphonic,MP3, AAC ringtones

      Cons
      It's a pretty hefty device coming in at127 x 81 x 25 mm
The web browser is Internet explorer I prefer Opera it's much faster at displaying the pages.
When the Wifi is turned on the battery will discharge rapidly

      More information
The price of the O2 XDA Exec can be seen at amazon for £399 as you can see its not cheap but it is a good mobile alternative to a laptop. There are cheaper ones second hand or new on ebay
