Some of like gadgets and I for one, love gadgets, when I first saw the O2 XDA I thought that there was no other gadget in the world that could beat it, at the time I wanted a PDA and a mobile phone but I had to choose one of them I took my time thinking about this and then I came across the XDA which was perfect for me but it was a little bit pricy, at first when it came out it cost £800 which is very very expensive.

Is the XDA worth all of that money? If so what is so special about it?

Well whether you’re a business man or a kid who likes showing off his gadgets the XDA suits all with its wide range of features it supports. The XDA has special features even though it’s a pocket pc it is a mobile phone (people may say you have a brick) it supports the features of a mobile phone: you can call (obviously) you can send and receive text messages. Another reason why the XDA is so pricy is that is has a special windows on it, windows CE, so this is a operating system in itself and if you look in the shops windows XP can be up to £100, in this operating system it comes with stuff like pocket excel and pocket word which I will explain in more detail later.

So what featured does it have?

The XDA is a pocket pc so when you turn it on you will get what you call on the computer a desktop on the XDA it is called the today page, on this page it shows the normal Start button and it shows the time, date owner information, any tasks you have set yourself or if you have any text messages you can change the today wallpaper as you can with a normal computer. Inside the XDA there is a little stylus which is basically a little pen but you cannot write with it. You use this stylus to navigate around the XDA.

So, you have clicked on start on the today page and then a list comes down this list consists of the most frequently used applications so there will probably be contacts, calculator, calendar etc. and there are four other links on the start menu these are programs, settings, find and help.

If you click on the programs link guess what there are programs there! Bet you didn’t guess that one did you? When and if you purchase the XDA then in the programs at first there will be pocket word, excel and a few other things like internet explorer, image viewer, msn and windows media player.

If you click on pocket word it comes up with a blank sheet of paper and a on-screen keyboard if you don’t like using the keyboard you can change it to a letter recognizer where you write the letters with your stylus and it comes up on the screen, this is basically the same with excel although I don’t really use that much because I have no use for it.

Internet explorer is another application you may want to use a lot although I don’t recommend you use this if you are not with O2 because I rang up t-mobile who Ik am with and said could you send me the internet settings and they said I had to ring up o2 and they said ring up t-mobile and its like a tennis match. I never got the settings in the end.

The technical stuff

The computer is a ARM2002 processor which basically means that is what is running it, or if you download some games onto it you have to make sure the game is compatible with a ARM2002 processor. The computer is running Microsoft Windows CE as I think I have mentioned before this is basically a operating system for pocket pc’s. When you buy the XDA you should receive a cradle for it which not only charges up your XDA but it connects it to the computer via USB1 but you need a program called active sync which you can download off the Microsoft website (www.microsoft.co.uk) , the XDA has a LCD screen, and it is a touch screen, the battery power lasts for about 3-4 days if you are a normal user not if you are playing mp3’s all the time which wastes the battery. There is also a memory card slot which holds MMC and SD cards. And their is also an infrared port so you can transfer files to and from XDA devices, some mobile phones and some laptops.

So all in all I think the O2 XDA is a good gadget to have in your pocket but it can be a bit pricey but all in all it’s a great gadget and it will get you higher in popularity :-) just kiddin
