I got my palm m515 new, sealed in box, from ebay for a bargain £4, and now I honestly couldn't live without it!!!! I always carry it with me in my handbag.
The features it has are really helpfull:
Address - I use this as a back up for all of my phone numbers and addresses. That way if my phone goes wrong, not only do I have the important numbers on my Palm, but also on my computer. Which means I can print them out and have a paper back up too!
Date book - I use this to keep all my day-to-day events listed. Its great for keeping a track of appointments. As a student I also use it to keep my timetable, so I know where to be and when. It lets me look at my day, week and month, so I know when I can squeeze other stuff in.
Memopad - I use this to write my lecture notes up on. Once I have synchronised it with the computer I can then print these lecture notes - very helpful!
To-do list - I use this to keep track of all the tasks, and coursework I need to do. It lets me set different categories, eg coursework, shopping etc. I can set due dates and priorities, so I always know what I need to do.
This is just a brief summary of the main things I use mine for. If you would like to know more, please don't hesitate to message me.
The M515 (and possibly others in the M5XX series) are prone to something called electrostatic discharge (ESD) build-up. This happens over time as the metal casing of the M515 rubs against clothes. It causes the USB sync to stop functioning. This is a well known problem amongst Palm users, and I believe is now being ackowledged by Palm themselves. My M515 has just stopped syncing after 7 months - luckily it's still under warranty so I'm going to return to the retailer for an exchange (hopefully for a different model). Avoid the M515.
I have been using Palm hanhelds for a long time (almost three years). The first handheld I had was the Palm V, and know I have bought the Palm m515. Ever since I bought palm V I realized that in spite of the price, it was a good investment. A lot of people told me that I was crazy buying it, because it wasn't very usefull, but now I wouldn't be able to live without it. With this "mini computer" you can practically do everything. It comes with an wide range of applications to begin to use it (agenda, notes, tasks, etc.). For the work it is something really useful. It helps you to plan your time, thanks to the agenda. If you have to read some documents and you have to go out of the office, you don't have to worry about it, you only need to transfer it to your Palm and read it in your way home. You can also read your email in the Palm and write new messages that will be sent when you synchronize the data with the PC. If you do not have enough with the applications that the Palm brings built-in, don't worry, there are lots of applications you can buy or download from Internet to install in your Palm: Games, photo viewers, maps, accounting, etc... Through the infrared port, you will be able to share information with other Palm handhelds, and you will be able to connect to Internet with the aid of a mobile phone that also has an infrared port. The new m515 brings an expansion slot (plug-n-play). With this slot you will be able to have multiple applications just inserting a card with it into the slot. The new color screen of the new Palm m515, is very much better than the previos ones, independently of the light of the surroundings. Thanks to the universal connector of this model, you can connect to the palm multiple peripherals such as: keyboards, modems, bluetooth modules, digital cameras, etc. Just to finish, I will tell you that you can synchronize all
the data of our Palm with your PC through the Palm Desktop, that is available for PC's with Windows and PC's with Mac.
