Advantages: Looks good, has great features (when they work) good camera and internet
Disadvantages: Hard to use, many problems with the features - no keyboard
About 5 weeks ago i decided to upgrade my phone to the samsung Omnia. I did originally have the samsung F700 and have loved all of Samsungs phones so i was very eager to get this new one to try out. After seeing all the adverts showing all the great features i.e. windows mobile, excel etc i thought this phone would be perfect for me.
On receiving the phone i too was like a kid on christmas morning (as stated in the previous review) On first looks yes i love the phone - it looks totall stylish and is very modern.
The camera is great quality, it has amazing features as i have mentioned - even having a 'sat nav' optiont on the phone (although i couldnt get this to work for some reason)
It comes with two internet browsers, both Opera and Internet Explorer which both are very fast speed - when it works!! - some good games and the media options are very good - you can create slide shows/videos etc.
The actual using of the phone however is not that simple. As i have said i have had the Samsung F700 previously and although this was predominantly a touch screen phone, it also had a slide out keyboard. I was expecting the same for this phone. However it doesnt have this - it is totally touch screen.
Although at first i found this to be a novalty which attracted me tot he phone, it has become more of a problem rather than an attractive feature. It is now so hard to send a text message - on previous phones i could do it without looking, it now takes me ages to do this, and i have to stop what i am doing - very inconvenient!!
Making a phone call is also quite difficult, although there is a tiny laptop style mouse navigator, it is not quick enough for my liking to move around.
I have had a number of times where i have had to reset the phone, either the internet stops working, or the camera appears with an error message saying there are too many programs open, and the email option repeatidly tells me i have the incorrect password and it cannot retrive the information, then half hour later it will work even though i have changed nothing. Continually getting 'http error' on internet sites i have just visited - or 'your current internet settings have been dismissed' ? Or something along those lines - meaning i cant access the internet.
I also have a problem around 3 to 5 pm every day, my messages will not send for some reason?
I dont know if this is a phoen fault or a network problem, but it is not very good!!
Also, even when you 'X' out of a program you are running, it doesnt actually shut down. If you go to the task manager in tools, it will show you a long list of programs still running in the background where for some reason it hasnt closed them down properly.
The feature of how the screen changes depending on what angle you hold it - i had to turn this off. It kept getting 'stuck' on a sideways screen even if i moved it back to longways - and i had to jiggle the phone around until it finally decides to move back to the right direction!
I wouldnt really recommend this phone to someone who is a 'texter' its more of a business persons phone as a replacement to a PDA - if you wanted to use it as a PDA it will be perfect, but to call and text its not really practicle.
Summary: Great looking phone, but better for a PDA rather than a phone.

- 02/02/09 Also may i add that you may wish to change the 'no keyboard' to 'has keyboard' ??
Unless you have escaped from a mental institute this phone clearly does have a keyboard, it is a t.o.u.c.h keyboard, hence it being a touch phone.
However i must agree, while making phone calls i find easy, and texting is fine with the QWERTY standard layout; i have also had to tskmgr or reset my phone when some applications go awry (mostly the internet opera/ieM) |

- 23/11/08 You might want to consider putting your reviews through a spelling checker before posting to get rid of the typos and spelling mistakes. Also a line or two about the phone calling sound quality and battery life might make this more useful, as well as something about the internal memory and phonebook. |
