Advantages: buisness card reader and good camera
Disadvantages: took abit of getting used to
I have had my Samsung i900 Omnia since October. It came 'free' on a 12 month contract for £40 a month with Vodafone, including 500 text messages and 200 mins cross network.
The word 'omnia' is Italian for everything.
When this phone first came out on the market it was due to be big competion for the Apple Iphone. Its of a simular size, a touch screen and many of the same features.
The Omnia supports Windows Mobile, which sounded abit complicated at first but its pretty to work after abit. It has Microsoft Works package which includes Excel, Word and Power Point. It also has a start button on the main screen just like on a Windows PC, you add programs and shortcuts to the start list.
My Omnia has 8gb of memory but there is a 16 gb available. I have 10 photos and no music or added games on the phone yet the memory is almost full. You can delete the programs that you dont use to free up space. It has a 5 mega pixel camera which is very good compared to most other mobiles on the market. The camera has many features you would find on an expensive Samsung digital camera, like face reconition and auto focus.
One of my favourite features to play around with is the buisness card reader. You take a picture of a buisness card and it will save all the info on the card into your phone book. You can also write out a text message in your own hand writting and it will convert it into text for you, tho when iv tried this it gets confused by a couple of letters. You can also use a qwerty keypad or a standard mobile key pad.
The battery will last about 3 days if I dont use it alot (4/5 texts a day and no phone calls), but if Im on the phone the battyery quickly drains, after a 1hr phone call the battery power will go down by about 50%.
It is a very good and sleek looking phone but a little on the big side but makes up for this by being thin. It comes with a telescopic stylus that attaches to the phone to make the touch screen easier to use. Without the stylus the buttons on the screen are quite small and difficult to make sure you press the right one.
It took quite abit of time to get used to using this phone but now I understand it I love it. I dont think this phone is worth the very high retail price it has but if your going to buy an Iphone which is more expensive, I would really consider buying this phone! I had an Iphone when they first came out and didnt think it lived up to all the hype.
Summary: A great rival to the Iphone.
