Advantages: Lots of storage space
Disadvantages: Expensive
The Sony Reader enables the user to carry 160 books- or with a memory card 13,000 in the user's purse weighing just less than an actual book when the protective cover is on. At £199.99 its retail price is extremely expensive although it can be found much cheaper on line at Wh Smith's website and play.com which charges £149.99 £50 less.
In my opinion this is definitely worth a buy if you are the type of person who always likes to take a book or two on the go and especially when going on holiday it is infinitely useful when you can take loads of books without exceeding the weight limit. This device is charged with a usb cable from the computer and would usually last around six hours depending on the font size. Also it doesn't hurt you eyes like you might imagine and turning a page is very easy and you don't even notice it after a while.
The font size can be changed to three different settings and books can be downloaded from the internet. Although you start with 100 books they are mainly classics and a twelve year old boy like me in his spare time won't really want to read too much of Jane Austen and Shakespeare. Books are generally £1 or so cheaper than in the shops and they are several different sites such as Waterstones and Penguin although personally I find that Books on Board is a lot cheaper and has a larger variety of books. On this site however you have to choose between the Us site or the Uk site so if it comes in dollars you have to change it.
Although you could say it is expensive if you download lots of books that previously you bought from shops you can save quite a bit and compared to the Kindle or the Iliad this is around £200 cheaper and doesn't have many less features. It only takes seconds to download a book after purchasing in a very similar way you can download music. The settings are easy to use and there aren't that many problems with the machine. also there is a bookmark setting which enables you to not lose the page if you suddenly turn it off or it runs out of battery.
All in all I would recommend this device to all book lovers as lots of books are now on the internet and daily that number is increasing. Also the Sony Reader prevents you from going to a book shop only to find the book isn't in stock, lugging books throughout the country and the tough choice between which book to read next. Thank You for reading my review I hope you have found it very useful.

- 02/09/09 I love the idea but I just can't quite justify it yet ;-) |

- 26/08/09 Nah this'll never catch on. I think people like books so they can keep them on shelves even if they never read them again. I'll stick to the traditional method.
Thanks for the review though. |
