Advantages: Literally a computer in a phone size package
Disadvantages: Its very large compared to other phones on the market
As I'm in the Computer trade I'm into my gadgets and I like to have all the latest functionality, this phone specifications ticked all my boxes, a fingerprint reader, wireless B&G and it was made by a known brand namely Toshiba. I got mine from ebuyer.com and it came sim free with a 512mb memory card.
When it arrived the first thing I did was to slide the phone open which, as weird as it sounds was a smooth opening and closing action. At this point I noticed the size, it was considerably bigger than the pictures I had seen, the height a width are fine and leaves ample space for the screen and keyboard and doesn't lead to cramped fingers having to squeeze fingers into a cramped keyboard. However the depth of the device is the problem it is about twice the depth of my old V3 RAZR and means that you can't just slip into your pocket, its size can lead to quite embarrassing bulges in your pocket, however was willing to put up with the size for its performance.
The phone itself has very complicated menus as it revolves around windows mobile 5, there is a home screen, which displays all the vital status information, to access your programs you must then click start, which displays 5 programs then you must press more to view 5 more programs and so on, this leads to a complicated interface and could easily be simplified by putting the programs on one screen and allowing your to school through them. However when you eventually find the programs you want you will find they load slowly, it is almost as if it is missing some processing power or ram its not a big problem but if you use it regularly it can be frustrating. It is most noticeable when switching the phone off and turning the phone on which can take up to a minute
The main part of the phone is the fingerprint reader located on the back of the phone, you must train this first by scanning each of your fingers 3 times, the reader is perfect, you can scan at speed and you can scan even at an angle. The position of the finger print reader is odd as it means you must bend your finger to the back it would be much better placed at the front. The wireless part of the phone is seamless and works the same as a wireless pc, the range is excellent and doesn't drain the battery, and once connected using internet explorer is simple and very much what you would be used to. The phone is clever and manages to shrink the websites to be able to fit on the phones screen, it also comes with opera as an alternate browser. The camera is 2.0 megapixel however once uploaded the seem slightly blurry so it defiantly isn't a camera killer, I'm still looking through all the features however some of the clever tricks it can do easily make it a pda and phone, it can unlock your computer when the phone comes into range of your computer. It also has an mp3 player run via window media player and a micro SD card to store all your photos videos mp3's and e mails
Although the phones menu is clumsy and application switching is slow, this phone is packed full of gadgets and tricks and will easily impress any geek.
