Seagate External Desktop Drive 500 GB ... have had this hard drive for a few months now and its exactly what it says on the tin. Please not that only 466gb of the hard drive is usable after it has been formatted to a NTFS format which is what is recognized by most computer systems. First of all it is powered by the mains which means that it isn t meant to be used as a portable hard drive unless you are always near to a power socket. It does work on USB 2.0 but rarely achieves the top speed of 480mb/s. The average speed is around 15 mb/sec which is all right for this kind of drive. Western Digital make great portable hard drives and this has definitely been the best yet. 320GB of space for around £65 is a great deal, you get a handy portable hard drive for extra storage or backups and they also throw in the usb cable for free. It does include WD Sync as well but that will only work on PCs (even though this hard drive is suitable for Macs as well) The hard drive connects over USB 2.0 resulting in high speed data transfers (extremely quick compared to small usb flash drives) and means you don t need an external power supply to use this hard drive. Iomega Professional Hard Drive 1 TB ... completely filled my 80gb hard drive I decided to buy a big hard drive that would last my long time with lots of storage for all my files. The Iomega is good value from Tesco (under £70 before vouchers), as you get a 1TB sata hard drive (which I now use in my computer) and an external enclosure (where I put my old hard drive inside, in place of the 1TB drive). I have been using the 1TB hard drive everyday now for a few months, without any problems at all. The drive seems quick to access (7200rpm according to Tesco website).
