I was initially attracted to them beause of the cheap prices, but its now years since I got my first one. They have never given me any problems, I would probably even pay more than other brands now as this is one I trust. My first was a big beast of a machine that weighed a lot and needed it s own ac adapter. This newer version is much much smaller and lighter, it is very portable. Western Digital Elements USB 2.0 drive WDE1U2500 250 GB ... thing is a big beast of a machine, it is heavy, bulky and requires an AC adaptor (provided). New versions are tiny in comparrison weighting almost nothing and they power off the computer via the USB socket. I purchased this machine 3 years ago so at the time I was very happy with it. After 3 years of regular use it still works fine and has never lost any files. I use it to store photos, music and films. I also store other bits and bobs like word documents and programs. As soon as it is connected to the computer it is ready to use so no technical know how is needed. Freecom Toughdrive Custom 250 GB ... received this hard drive as a Christmas present and it worked perfectly. It is so small and I really like the way the USB tucks away. You can customise the picture on the hard drive, either with the supplied pictures, or with your own, which is nice. It worked quickly and efficiently, and I used this as my main file storage. It travelled with me a lot and got bashed and dropped a lot, and worked perfectly. However it got drenched in water on a very rainy camping trip (it was sat in a puddle of water in the tent!!) and after that it started to play up a bit and eventually after a few weeks it would only work now and then - thankfully I managed to get all my files of...
