Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500 GB ... purchaced this drive off Amazon as it was the best value for money I could find. It may be slightly large and needs an external power supply, but for a disk intended as a backup device I would rate this as standard. The orange strip on the side glows in accordance with the data transfer rate from the disk, so you can see how hard it s working. The noise is not too bad and it does not seem to overheat. I ve never had any problems with my unit, however I have heard from others that it is prone to the occasional failure.
