The hard drive in Plug and play so it does not require a Driver or software to work and requires a 12V AC Adapter which comes with the hard drive. The sleek design, compact size, Western Digital s long proven reputation as a reliable hard drive manufacturer and large amounts of positive reviews swayed my decision. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the quality look and feel of the hard drive (it looks even better in real life). The hard drive is very quiet and hardly noticeable when running alongside my computer. I chose to use the hard drive as a backup of my essential data, mainly photos. 	Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500 GB ... purchaced this drive off Amazon as it was the best value for money I could find. It may be slightly large and needs an external power supply, but for a disk intended as a backup device I would rate this as standard. The orange strip on the side glows in accordance with the data transfer rate from the disk, so you can see how hard it s working. The noise is not too bad and it does not seem to overheat. I ve never had any problems with my unit, however I have heard from others that it is prone to the occasional failure.
