If you used a separate hard disk for each user, this would increase the risk of the data disappearing or tampering through bad intent. Security-wise, the IDSbox architecture prevents the use of the hard disk containing the saved data on any other computer system other than that in which the IDSbox has been installed.

The need for a password to access the IDSbox as well as all other "customer accounts" also reinforces the security of the whole concept. In the case of a simple USB hard disk, it would be possible for any experienced user to extract the data from any other Windows-operated system. A hard disk with USB port does not allow you to install any automated backup operations or outsourcing, unless you physically move it outside the company's walls, which endangers the security and confidentiality of your data. Frequent manipulations weaken the disk and reduce its life-span. The proper functioning of the backup operations is not monitored, and in case of a hard-disk failure, there is no way for you to retrieve your data.

The IDSbox, on the contrary, will send you emails to confirm the proper functioning of the system. In case of a viral attack, the risk run by a USB hard disk is identical to that run by the internal hard disk and is subject to the same risks, whereas in the case of the IDSbox, the operating system will act as a firewall to protect the hosted data.
