Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 500 GB ... Hitachi Deskstar is a great little hard drive which can be had for around £40. I bought this hard drive for my first computer i built and am extreamly impressed with its preformance. It is exceptionaly quiet i have never really heard a peep from it over the sound of the fans and DVD drive which isn t really that loud. It seems to run at a reasonable temperature, I have felt it before after the coputer has been running for a couple of hours and it has been reasonably cool nothing to worry about. The drive is a massive 500Gb which is plenty for the average user easily fitting all of your music, documents and videos on with little trouble and acres of space to spare. ... Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74 GB ... bought this hard drive about three years ago and it is still going strong (oops I ve done it now!). At the time, it was the fastest hard drive on the market. Things have moved on since then, but the raptor is still one of the fastest hard drives around. I ve used this drive with both Windows XP and, more recently, with Windows Vista. It s performed excellently with both operating systems (with a couple of provisos, see below). The key to the drive s performance is its rotation speed. The disc spins at 10,000 rpm (or 166 times per second!).
