Advantages: Tough, fast and inexpensive !
Disadvantages: None to date.
External hard drives seem to be getting ever more popular, it seems no matter how big the PC or laptop`s own drive is it`s never enough. This particular external hard drive is designed to be portable so as well as having the extra space you might need you also have the option of being able to take this drive along to friends or family`s houses or even to work and instantly have access to all the files you need or even just want.
The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive in question has a 250Gb capacity which when used along with your original hard drive or probably even on its own is more than enough for most. Some external hard drives look and are very bulky and cumbersome, this one being designed to be portable is a lot less so. It is fairly light weight but very robust and also has the distinct advantage of looking good which a lot certainly do not.
Ok so it`s light weight and looks good but can it compete with the other drives out there for functionality? Well the simple answer is yes it can and very well too, this drive is not only a good looker but also a very good performer. It connects to your PC or laptop via USB and needs no external power supply. It has a Data Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps which is up there with the best and has the following system requirements, Windows 2000/XP/Vista - Pentium II - RAM 256 MB
MacOS X 10.1.5 or later - PowerPC G3 - RAM 128 MB.
This hard drive includes patent pending Drop Guard feature to withstand the toughest of travel environments. I can vouch for it`s durability due to having a nasty accident with mine in which it slipped from my grasp and found itself tumbling down several carpeted stairs and ending up with a thud on the laminate floor in the down stairs hall. What effect did this have on the hard drive? Absolutely none, the accident happened over three weeks ago now and the hard drive has not suffered in any way at all.
I purchased this hard drive purely to use to transfer huge amounts of data and programmes from my PC to one of my friends who lives over 200 miles from me. I honestly thought the hard drive would be barely used after that but have found myself using it in many ways for my work as a professional photographer. I would it`s fair to say be lost without it now.
I purchased this piece of equipment in December of last year (2007) at the cost of £105 from Amazon.com, it can now be found for as little as £90 in certain places on line including Dabs.com. I honestly feel it`s worth every penny that I paid for it so obviously if you can pick it up for under a hundred quid then you are getting great value for money.
This hard drive is very easy to install to your Pc or laptop, it comes with a disc with the necessary drivers on it and a manual with all the instructions stated in a clear and concise manor. It takes little over two minutes to get the hard drive recognised and up and running and of course once it's been plugged in once it is instantly recognised the next time.
I have found it very fast in its ability to transfer files whether it be to the hard drive form your PC or laptop or vice versa. It handles every type of file that any PC or laptop will and reacts in exactly the same way as an internal hard drive would. It is an excellent piece of equipment and although it is the only one I have used a very good friend of mine was very impressed with the speeds of this hard drive as opposed to the transfer speeds he gets with his Maxtor 200gb drive.

It has very good looks, its easy to install, it performs well, it has a very fast transfer rate, it's strong and durable and it is not too expensive. If you are looking for either a portable or just an external hard drive then take a look at this one!
I have never had to contact the manufacturer so it is difficult to give you any idea of whether or not the support offered would be any good or not but their help site does seem to be pretty much in accordance to what you would get from most.
