... as soon as both ends of the firewire cable are plugged in. You don't even need to press the power button at this stage. In use I've found the drive responsive and completely fault free in the long time Ive had it. Transfer times are pleasingly quick and more importantly sustained at that high rate thanks to firewire 400 connection. I purchased a Lacie D2 250GB drive several years ago and was the first (of now several) Lacie branded drives that I now own. At the time of release these drives were striking for both their minimalist and iconic look, together with near indestructible build quality of the rugged casing. Lacie hardware has long been popular with the Apple Mac community which perhaps goes some way to explain the industrial aesthetic flaunted by these devices.
