Advantages: Fairly compact, A lot of space, Noise, Reliability, Easy to setup

Disadvantages: None

I wonder how much useful information I can write about an external hard drive. After all, all it does is add additional space to your computer right? I asked for an external hard drive for my birthday as I wanted to free up space to make my laptop run smoother and I thought it would be a good place to store big files and my music. To my surprise I was given this hard drive with a huge 320 GB of space.

The Maxtor Basics Portable external hard drive is about the size of a PS3 controller in length and width and has the depth of something that could fit in a coat pocket at a push. The hard drive is a light weight product though which makes it easy to carry about or no trouble to stick in a laptop case should you need to. It comes with a fairly small lead which I suppose could be tricky for certain desktop setups but I feel it is more than adequate for something that sits beside my laptop. I wouldn't want a huge lead on the table anyway.

All you need to do to set it up is plug one side of the lead into the Maxtor and the two USB slots into your computer or laptop and you're quickly away with a lot more space at your disposal. The sheer space available to you on this hardrive is very useful if you have a large photo, video and music collection like myself but you would be better off getting a smaller model if you only want to use it for transferring or backing up files.

I have had this device for a few months now and I have had no problems with it whatsoever, although I haven't exactly been dropping it or swinging it about like a cowboy with the lead. I have also never been grated by any sort of annoying sounds from the hard drive. You can never hear it and in fact the only time I have heard it is when I have put it up to my ear like a sea shell. It also has a very sleak design and you can get it in a variety of colours but I love the black.

Well i'm stumped for useful information to write about a removable hard drive now. The Maxtor is a fantastic external hard drive which is suitable if you need a large amount of storage space like myself.

Summary: If you have the need for a lot of external storage. This is simply perfect.
