Advantages: Fast, inexpensive

Disadvantages: Very likely to get defective after a while

The Samsung Spinpoint F1 (HD103UJ) is a fast, inexpensive hard drive with a large amount of space, however it really is quite unreliable.

When formatted in windows, you are basically left with 931GB, which is obviously quite big. Great for HD content, music and games (no need to uninstall). Mine was whisper quiet and temp of the hard drive never passed 40c. It was easy to slot in my comp and as with most drives, consisted of multiple holes which allowed me to screw it firmly in my case. The F1 Hard Drives consist of three 334GB platters which is what makes them so fast. Read and write speeds were fairly good, games loaded very quickly and HD content ran very smooth.

I got my first one about 8 months ago and everything was fine until one day it stopped working properly and began churning out these annoying clicking sounds. As time went on, my computer began to have frequent BSODs and random crashes. I had a huge amount of data stored (mainly videos and music) and a lot of it got corrupted. Tried using CHKDSK on Windows and was only able to recover some bad sectors. I was hugely disappointed and ended up having to RMA it.

I've been using my new F1 for about 3 weeks now and it is performing as it should but who knows what will happen down the line. I personally wouldn't recommend these drives to anyone since they are proven to be unreliable. In addition to my review, a quick search on Google should give you a good idea on how bad these hard drives are in regards to faults and defects. I have a Western Digital Caviar hard drive and a Maxtor hard drive and they both work exceedingly well without a single hitch. I definitely will not be buying another Samsung hard drive and I'd advise you to stay far away from them.

Summary: A very unreliable hardrive
