It seems you can never have enough Hard Drive space in your home computer these days? I remember when my first home computer had a 10 GB Hard Drive and I thought I would never need more than that! Times change though and having purchased a new PC recently I decided to add some extra Hard Drive space to put all my old data onto instead of having it on various blank media discs that were a pain to navigate through. I already had a 500 GB drive in my new computer so I decided that an extra 500 GB would be more than enough to deal with all my old data and leave room to spare.
When it comes to internal Hard Drives I have always trusted the Western Digital brand. In fact nearly every single Hard Drive I have purchased over the last twelve years has been from them and only once has one ever let me down. This was more to do with a faulty PSU than the drive itself so I never let that issue put me off of the Western Digital brand. Hard Drive prices have dropped through the floor in recent years and you really do not have to spend much to upgrade your current computer in that area. I was surprised that for around £30 I had a large choice of internal Hard Drives to choose from.
After some deliberation I went for the Western Digital 500GB Caviar Blue SATA-300 7200rpm 16MB on sale at dabs for just £30.50. Once installed into my computer the drive is surprisingly quiet and also very fast in use. One thing to note was that this Hard Drive did not come boxed but in a static bag encased in a protective air filled chamber. I would not let this fact put you off as my drive was very securely packaged. I would say even more so than had it just come packed into a cardboard box.
In summary this is an excellent well made Hard Drive that is both fast and ultra quiet when in use. 500 GB of space for just £30.50 is very good value and I would recommend this drive to anyone wishing to upgrade or just add some extra space to their current computer.
Summary: Absolute bargain and very recommended.
