Disadvantages: Non that I can think of...

I recently purchased this massive 1TB drive to act as a backup solution for all my music, photo's and video's etc... More than enough for most needs.

This drive is pre-formatted with the Mac OSX File system so no need to re-format if you are a Mac user (Me). It works great with the Mac's wonderful Time Machine software, backing up my files every hour! It all works quietly in the background and doesn't appear to affect system performance at all.

The drive is in Western Digital's now familiar "Book" design and features: high speed USB 2, an e-sata port, firewire 400 and firewire 800 - so there are plenty of options for connectivity. The drive is very quiet indeed and looks good, therefore fitting in rather nicely with all my Mac hardware. The drive powers itself down when not in use (saving energy) but it boots back up when needed - it also turns itself off when you put your Mac to sleep or shut it down, and then obviously it boots back up again when your Mac does. So there is no front mounted power button on the drive, however, there is one on the back if needed.

The drive seems pretty fast too, I'm using it with firewire 800. You can also add additional drives to it; "daisy-chain".

Another important note is that Western Digital give it a generous 5 year warranty, this hopefully shows confidence in the reliability of this drive.

Summary: Excellent drive for a reasonable price, great for backups!
