I was prompted to buy a personal portable hard drive after getting annoyed of carrying around memory sticks of varying sizes to carry my work/videos/music on. After looking into the various manufacturers of these, I opted to choose the Western Digital 250gn Passport drive as it can be powered through the Usb port on any computer, and in effect acts as one huge memory stick. My hard drive arrived pre formatted to Fat32 which limits the file size you are able to transfer to 4Gb, however you can simply reformat the drive to NTFS enabling larger files to be transferred. The bundled software that arrives on the hard drive may be useful to someone, however in my ... Read the complete review

I was prompted by look into buying an external hard drive as I don't have a personal laptop at home, and by work laptop has a rather meagre 60GB hard drive. I looked at several different external hard drives at ultimately opted for a Western Digital My Passport 250GB. Here's my review of the product: Price At £47.87 on Amazon, the WD My Passport compares favourably with its main rivals, namely the Buffalo MiniStation Turbo USB 250GB at £55.69 and the Seagate 250GB FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive at £51.48. Not a bad price i'm sure you'd agree for 250GB of storage! Style It has a sleek polished back look, although i've had ... Read the complete review

I bought this harddrive so that I would have a place to back up some of the files that I most wanted to keep safe, such as photos and important documents. 250 GB is a lot of space and for any casual user it will be more than enough. You only need to look at a harddrive with a bigger capacity if you have tonnes of music, video or graphics-heavy files. I was a bit surprised that the harddrive came with no instructions or installation CD, and people who are not at ease with computers might panic a bit at that. However all you need to do it plug the harddrive into a USB port and your computer should instantly recognise it and install the hardware for you. ... Read the complete review

After starting university in October it became apparent that I needed a portable hard drive to store my thousands of photographs on and to store backups of important work. Given the nature of the product I wanted something which would last, and knowing that Western Digital are a well renowned brand I spent £50 and got myself a 250gb hard drive. With regards to the hard drive's construction, it is made out of plastic and so probably isn't too durable, but I keep it sitting firmly on my desk and don't have to worry about dropping it. It is remarkably small, fitting into my hand, meaning that unlike some other HDDs I can transport it and my files with ease. ... Read the complete review

This is a cracking piece of kit to add to the collection of anyone who likes to backup data from their PC. I mostly use this to transfer music and movie backups from my pc to my ps3. The USB interface is plug and play although buit into the drive are drivers that i have never ran instead i prefer to use this like a massive flash drive and have never had a problem with just dragging and dropping whatever into it and transferring across platforms. The ps3 reckonised it no problem and backup files open easily, my only complaint is that you cannot use it to store demo's and game data but you CAN use it to store your gamesaves which is handy if your nipping ...
