Advantages: Portable, convenient, large space, plug and play
Disadvantages: none
Just when I thought my 8 GB flash drive is the best device I could use for storing incredibly huge files... something just came up and its really way much better.
I am a fan of media files and I got lots of huge media files that are pushing the limits of my computer. Not only once that I had experience system failure due to excessive files I have in my PC and I always being scolded by our IT tech supports for this issue, but since I am an officer, too bad for them cause they just can't hold this against me... all they can do is to always adjust my system and upgrade it for bigger storage.
Well it also partly their fault. I stood to be the server of our accounting system and yet, I am using only Windows '98 SE in my office with 80 GB hard disk while the other bosses which are only processing words and excel documents are equip with a much sophisticated and advance Operating System.
Too low graded as it may seems but it was already upgraded for when they handed me that computer it was actually only 40GB and took me only few months to request another 40GB hard disk because of my huge files.
That is the problem if you are a sentimental person just like me. You see I am the type of person that already saw the movies, had already printed my pictures burned my music into CD's but still don't want to get rid of them on my PC.
So I have requested several devices that may help me keep my files without compromising my office files.
My First Storage Device Option: LG Drive
At first they got me my LG drive (Which is also shown on my previous review). It may not be the best drive but it still works well in burning my files. With it, I was able to have my compilations of data files in DVD and save few songs as well.
But time proved that LG drive is not enough for me. There are some files that I wish to burn, especially movie files that are beyond my CD's capacity. Not only that, I also encountered several problem in reading my burn data as well as the slow process of burning that I have to spend to store a file.
My Second Storage Device Option: Flash Drive
Then we had moved to my next option, which is the use of a flash drive.
Now, I got my self, my own 8 GB flash drive that I bought for my personal use since my company cannot really answer my needs for large file storage. My flash drive is better than my LG Drive in terms of Files to store and writing speed. Aside from that I also found it very convenient to carry any time and I enjoyed its plug and play features as well.
Flash drive really did look pretty well "BUT" still have a very limited space for my files. If I wish to create back ups with all my file, I would probably have to spend lots of money to buy another 10 flash drive just to do this in which is very unrealistic and impractical.
I was still in search for much comprehensive device and so I speak with my IT tech support friend and ask him what else could I do to satisfy my needs for larger space.
He presented me two devices in which I could request to upgrade my storage.
Enclosure and External Hard Disk Option
The first option was the use of Enclosure and External Hard disk. He just shows me how this device actually looks like and how fast is its writing speed. It really works pretty well and fast, it also have huge amount of space of about 500GB which is more than enough to back up all my file and make another three duplicate copies and save it in just one hard disk.
Problems with Enclosure case and External Hard Disk'
However, with the way this Enclosure case and External Hard Disk looks, I don't think that it is advisable to bring it anywhere. Aside from that, this option requires two separate devices, which you still have to screw up together to make it functional.
Another problem with Enclosure and External Hard Disk is its durability. When you put these items together, you will notice that there is still space inside that case that makes it shaky inside.
It maybe good storage device but I don't think is durable enough to absorb a hard fall.
At long last, here comes the Western Digital My Passport Essential with 320 GB
Now finally we end up with our final and most probably, the best storage of today. The Western Digital My Passport Essential with 320 GB storage capacities.
Why I say it is the best?
As you can recall, I have mention several devices earlier that completes my list of option.
The LG Drive
USB Flash Drive
The Enclosure and External Hard Disk
All of these devices are good but still have their own flaws and cons. Western Digital My Passport Essential may not be the best of its product line but definitely exceeds the rest of these devices' capability.
All the flaws of the above mentioned storages had been answered and develop by Western Digital My Passport Essential.
-Largest Space
First was the Storage Space. It has a capacity of 320 GB spaces that allows me to create numerous back up files without worrying that I may not have enough space for the my other important files. In fact even if I will save a pictures and movies every day, I don't think I can filled this passport even if it takes me a year.
-Convenient to Use
Then with Western Digital My Passport Essential, I can have the convenient of flash drive because I can now carry this amazing device in my pocket in anywhere I want to. Western Digital My Passport Essential has slim and compact features that allows me to carry my all of my work and load even at home, no matter of its size. With that, I don't have to render extra time in our office for some unfinished task, which can be done on my home.
-Faster Writing Speed
The Western Digital My Passport Essential writing speed is very impressive as well. Interface Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps in which in my observation is 20 times faster than burning CD or 5 times faster than my flash drive. It really draws a smile on my face every time I am copying a file because of this fast performance.
-Compact and Durable
Western Digital My Passport Essential is durable as well. Since it is designed compact, it is more solid than the Enclosure and External Hard Disk device. Every space inside this device has filled with electronic parts and there should be no shaking parts inside when you shake it. That does add up confidence that this passport is very durable and reliable.
-Plug and Play
This passport is plug and play as well. You would just need a USB port to connect Western Digital My Passport Essential in every XP and above O.S. and it will automatically recognize by your pc. I already tried it on my laptop at home and I don't experience any problem with it.
-The Only Flaw
However, since I am using Windows 98 SE OS in my office, my friend has to install a universal USB port reader to me to make it run with my office desktop. But above this weakness, I can't find any other disadvantage as per as the device is concern.
Here are some Western Digital My Passport Essential 320 GB technical product specifications that you could find written on its manual:

Western Digital My Passport Essential 320 GB Price
Western Digital My Passport Essential 320 GB is affordable as well. My company bought this product for me for just less than £63.00 . That is much cheaper than buying 10 flash drives or 1 LG drive... it is also cost less than buying Enclosure and External Hard Disk set where you have to spend for two separate device.
Western Digital My Passport Essential also has 400 GB and 500 GB passports, which cost a little bit over £75.00 and of the same physical appearances but I don't think I will be needing that now. The 320 GB is more than enough for me, at least for now.
