It is of course always a good idea to keep a back up of your files to ensure that if anything does go wrong you don t lose everything in one fell swoop. Western Digital My Passport Elite WDML5000 500 GB ... passport drives are my favourite portable hard drives and by far the most reliable that I have yet to come across. It comes with a USB lead, which everyone will know is a sufficient and popular media to hook up your drive. Also now every computer has USBs so makes it the best chocie of adaptor. The drives also have an encryption service you can use to protect your data and keep it safe and secure. The drive itself is is quiet and runs smoothly. The drive will not slow down your machine like others and has very good read and write speeds. I can tranfer 5gb of files to it within minutes. I looked at several different external hard drives at ultimately opted for a Western Digital My Passport 250GB. Here s my review of the product: Price At £47.87 on Amazon, the WD My Passport compares favourably with its main rivals, namely the Buffalo MiniStation Turbo USB 250GB at £55.69 and the Seagate 250GB FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive at £51.48. Western Digital My Book Studio Edition WDH1Q10000 1 TB ... for all my music, photo s and video s etc... More than enough for most needs. This drive is pre-formatted with the Mac OSX File system so no need to re-format if you are a Mac user (Me). It works great with the Mac s wonderful Time Machine software, backing up my files every hour! It all works quietly in the background and doesn t appear to affect system performance at all. The drive is in Western Digital s now familiar "Book" design and features: high speed USB 2, an e-sata port, firewire 400 and firewire 800 - so there are plenty of options for connectivity.
