Wesc Bass DJ
by slide_away_
I got these headphones as a freebie with a deal for my phone contract at Christmas: I've always wanted a pair of on ear headphones and have never been able to part with the money needed to buy a decent pair, so I was really excited then I realised that they came free! Over the years of me having my own MP3 player I've had so many pairs ... of in ear headphones and found something wrong with all of them: the Apple iPod ones always seemed to rip due to their material and other brands I've bought have just cut out in one ear for no reason.
Hopefully I'll never have to deal with that again now I have these! Retailing at anywhere between £40 and £90 depending on the shop they are definitely an expensive investment and much more than an average pair of in ear headphones. But the sound quality is amazing compared to in ear ones: when I first used them I was shocked at how good it was! I've heard so many parts of songs using these that I've never noticed before and as a lover of music, I was so excited to!
These are called Bass DJ and it is obvious: songs with a strong bass line in them sound second to one through these: I'm not a huge fan of chart music much but I'll actually listen to songs like that through these cause the quality's so great. Going back to my lousy HMV £5 in ear headphones after these is always such a disappointment!
I wouldn't even use in ear headphones anymore, apart from the inevitable fact that these are pretty big and hard to store when you're not using them. They don't fit in an average handbag whereas in ear ones, you can shove them anywhere. Some types of on ear headphones have hinges inbuilt so that you can store them better but these don't and I'd definitely say that's a disadvantage that keeps me from solely using these.
Also, as much as I love the sound quality, the design to me isn't the best. The silver side adjusters stick out a bit from the side of my head, and since my head is quite small compared to the headphones, they stick out a lot. Also, I wouldn't have chosen the colour white since I much prefer black headphones, but since they came free, I can't really complain. One thing I really like about the design is that the brand WeSC is written on the sides and the top in a shiny white colour and therefore can only be seen if light is reflected onto it: I feel that this is a subtle way to show that it is a branded product but doesn't shout at people to declare it.
I've had them since Christmas and they definitely seem sturdy and like they're going to last, which I feel is a good quality considering the price. Also, the cushioned part of the headphones is really comfy and even when wearing them for long periods of time doesn't annoy me or start to feel heavy. On the R side as well the circle rotates meaning that you can keep the headphones on and move one side off your ear if you want to talk to people, for example. I found this out accidentally and thought I'd broken them, but this was a great surprise! There is also a Play/Pause button inbuilt into the wire which is useful, and they also came with an extension wire so that they work with phones etc.
Basically, I love these headphones and am so glad I was given them as a freebie! The sound quality is brilliant and definitely makes up for their flaws. Read the complete review |

Creative EP-210
by JoelM
I had been through pair after pair of headphones whether it be out and about, at college, at home or at the gym. Wherever I'd seem to break them at first it was because I was not treating them well. But I soon realized many were just poor quality.
Never really sought a solution just kept wasting money, so one day ... unsurprisingly my headphones had broken and I wanted to go to the gym and listen to my own music so I borrowed my brothers headphones. They were completely fine at the gym and he let me keep them (he had had them for 1 year) I managed to keep them going while working out for around 8 months. Believe it or not this was the longest I'd ever kept a pair, I was chuffed.
So once these had bit the dust I went straight onto Amazon and looked for the exact one I found them but to my surprise £6.99! I was so surprised and had to double check but no these were the same durable headphones. Ordered a pair and I still use them to this day. Have since got a separate pair for the gym. These headphones have saved me a lot of money and time.
These are in-ear headphones I've personally never liked the over ear ones, never saw the attraction. They look pretty standard with the color and shape, has the creative logo on the side and the letter for which ear they are for, not much creativity went into how they look but for me this is not a matter. They can fit into any device with the standard audio jack, used on MP3 players, iPods, iPhones etc. The wires themselves also seem durable. The only bad points I can think of is that they do not cancel out noise around you and can be heard easily by those around you. But really for that price and how durable they are that's a minor problem, if considered to be a problem.
All in all I would recommend these headphones for anyone that needs cheap, durable and good quality headphones. The price to me is simply amazing. Can't praise it enough. If music is what you need let these headphones deliver it to you. Read the complete review |

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Studio High-Definition Headphones
by kahluafan
I purchased my Beats Studios around 3 years ago, paying about £80 in HMV when trading in a bunch of old video games. I have to admit to buying into the fad around these at the time, but thought that headphones that cost £280 couldn't be that bad, could they?
After getting them home I opened up the box and turned them on (they ... won't work unless you have batteries in, they power the noise-cancellation technology). The first thing I gave a listen to was Ed Sheeran's '+' album - a personal favourite. I cranked the volume up to about 75% and gave the whole album a listen to.
I was fairly impressed, the sound being nice and crisp, with the acoustic nature of the album shining through. I should state that all my music is in a lossless format, so as close to the original recording as possible, so I'd expect to hear ever nuance of the recording. I don't class myself as an audiophile (I wouldn't have bought them if I was), but I do have a keen ear for music, and was impressed with what I heard.
Next up I tried something a bit punchier, giving Beyonce's album a go (it was my girlfriend's - honest...) - 'Love on Top' sounded particularly impressive. At this point I thought I might as well give the headphones a real challenge and throw some bass-heavy hip-hop at them - they are after all endorsed by the grandfather of modern rap, so I thought they'd excel here. I wasn't wrong, with a variety of Asher Roth, Beastie Boys and D12 sounding suitably punchy.
At this point, my housemate stormed in, fuming. At this point I'd discovered the first downfall of these. The noise-leakage. It turns out that whilst I'd been jumping around my room in blissful ignorance, the sound leaked so much that he could here it from across the hall - through 2 doors. At 75%, which didn't even seem that loud to me!
We decided to crank them to 100% and see what kind of leakage they produced - wow. He could go outside the flat and keep the door closed (and we had heavy fire doors) and still hear the vocals clearly - not ideal. The only way to counter this was to listen to music at around 30-40% when out and about, so those idiots that wear them on the tube cranking the volume? Yeah, we can all hear you playing your embarrassing music, and sing along should we wish...
So, whilst the music itself was pretty positive, these are ultimately let down by a number of poor issues:
Sound leakage - as above. From what I can gather, this is a problem that applies across the whole range of Beats headphones unfortunately.
Build Quality - they're made of plastic (unlike the aluminium Pro model), and feel rather flimsy
Obtrusive - they're fairly bulky in comparison to other on-ear headphones, not great for the tube where space is at a premium.
Expensive - BOSE headphones often come in at half the price, and sound twice as good, without the noise leakage.
Easily faked - there are some scary stats out there on the amount of fakes in the market - so you need to buy from a reputable retailer.
Overall - I can understand why people would buy these; the marketing is very slick and they're well advertised. The majority of people I've seen wearing them are teenagers or young adults that consider themselves trendy - nothing wrong with this, but the quality doesn't justify the price or perception unfortunately. If they were half the price they are, this would've been a more positive review, but alas, they're not. Decent sound is let down by sound leakage, the need to change batteries every 20 hours, and the poor build quality. Read the complete review |
