AKG K420 is the least expensive one among the , K420,K430,K450, the portable phones that are newly released by AKG. However, its quality should not be underestimated.
I am not much fond of its appearence, and I agree if you say it looks cheap. As a portable headphone, it is made to be very light so you don't feel much pressure when wearing it. The noise-isolation is not satisfying because of its semi-open design, but leads to a bigger soundstage.
About its sound quality, I had the opportunity to compare it with Px100, and I have to say I prefer this one better, though they sound similar. Bass sounds similar both in temrs of quality and amount on both phones, and voices are more emphasized on K420 when it comes to the mids. Also, the K420 has a better extension of the highs which leads to a more transparent sound than Px100. However, if you listen to classical music, I suggest you go for Px100, though I doubt wheter there will be anyone listening to classical on portable devices.

Summary: Go for it if you don't care too much about its appearence
