Alba In Ear Headphones
Advantages: Great sound quality
Disadvantages: None at all
My husband and myself attend the gym around twice a week at the moment, and have done for a few years now, I personally have been attending our local gym several years longer than he has and on the whole I generally enjoy going to the gym, however I do find when I am doing cardio I need to listen to some music, not because I hate doing the cardio part of my work out but because I find it helps to motivate me and keep me focused, it also makes the time go much quicker.
The cardio machines up our gym have built in TV's with music channels on however in order to listen to these you need to take your own headphones. Just before Christmas whilst up the gym I noticed that one ear piece of my current headphones was not working and no matter how much I fiddled around with it I couldn't get it going, I don't think putting them through the washing machine a few times helped to be honest. My Mum knew about this so for Christmas I received a new pair of headphones in my stocking. I don't usually spend a lot of money on my gym headphones as they do tend to wear out quite quickly and on occasions I have been known to forget to take them out of my pocket before putting my clothes into wash, the headphones I received were the Alba In Ear Headphones, I have had this make before and was impressed with the quality of them so I was more than happy to receive a new pink pair of these.
The Alba In Ear Headphones come in a small grey box with the name of the headphones written on the front and a picture of the earphones as well. From what I can remember I think there was some information about the headphones written on the box but unfortunately I cannot remember this in detail as I threw the box away several weeks ago. The headphones however came well packaged, neatly wound up and held in place with a small plastic covered wire tag and they were placed inside a small plastic bag for extra protection and to prevent them from rattling around inside the box.
The headphones are as the name suggests suitable for 'in ear' wear, in other words the small speaker area where the sound comes from sits just inside your ear, these particular headphones didn't come with different sized ear pieces, however they are of a standard size and personally I find that they sit comfortably inside my ear, they are not too large so that they hurt my ears nor are they too small so that as soon as I move they fall out. The outside of the ear pieces is covered in a pink plastic material, this has a sort of rubber feel to it, this feels almost soft which is for added comfort so that they do not rub or hurt the insides of your ear, this slightly softer plastic/ rubber coating really does make a difference compared to some harder plastic ear phones I have tried in the past.
The actual speaker part is grey and is basically a plastic circle covered in a series of small holes to allow the sound to come out, the grey speaker is fully surrounded by the softer pink plastic and the edges of the speakers are also covered with the pink plastic/ rubber material again to soften the edge whilst the ear piece is inside your ear.
When I am using my headphones up the gym I need something that has a reasonable length wire so that I am free to move around, a too short wire would mean that I was restricted and I would probably end up pulling the ear pieces out of my ear. Personally I find the wire of the Alba In Ear Headphones plenty long enough, it measures 1.2m with a driver length of 15mm and a jack size of 3.5mm. I find that the measurements of the headphones are ideal for the gym as they are not so long that the wire gets in the way on the other hand they are not so short that I feel restricted as I move around. The wire is also covered in the same rubbery plastic material, the wire is very thin, however the material it is made from means that it is very flexible, again this helps as you move around, if the wire is not flexible enough it could result in it snapping or a loose wire somewhere inside the headphones, the wire is also very flexible around where it runs into the actual ear pieces and the plug, again this helps to eliminate loose wires becoming a problem, I have used headphones in the past which have ended up with loose wires and I'm sure it is because the wire it too ridged and as I have moved around the wires worked their way loose. I find with my new Alba In Ear Headphones the wire is very flexible and moves with me which I am hoping will reduce the chance of loose wires in time.
The Alba In Ear Headphones are available in Argos and they cost just £4.99, personally I thought these were excellent value, they headphones are made to an excellent standard, they are strong and durable and I am hoping that they prove to be long lasting. The sound quality through the ear pieces is very good, I mainly listen to music up the gym with mine and it is extremely clear, there is no crackling or tinny sound, everything sounds as it should, with cheaper headphones you do sometimes find that the sound quality is compromised, however with the Alba In Ear Headphones this is not the case. I also find that fact that they sit inside your ear means that the sound from the speakers does not escape, again this helps with the cleanness of the sound but it also means that the person next to you does not have to listen to what you are listening to, this is something I do find a bit annoying when you are trying to listen to something yourself and all you can hear is the person next to you music, with the in ear style ear pieces this sound loss is limited.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Alba In Ear Headphones, they are very reasonably priced and made to a high standard, they are of an excellent quality and have a very good sound quality as well. I particularly like the flexibility of the headphones as this makes them perfect for gym use which is where I use mine.
The headphones I have are a bright pink colour, however they do also come in other colours including black and white meaning there is a colour suitable for both men and woman. Mine were bought from Argos where they cost £4.99. So far I have found no disadvantages of this product and have got on extremely well with them, these are certainly headphones I would recommend and would also consider buying again in the future.
Summary: A good pair of headphones for a small price
