Many people will be familiar with these official Apple earphones since they are packaged with Apple products such as their mp3 players. They are also available to purchase individually and can be used in any earphone port on any device, not just Apple products.
These are in-ear earphones which are inserted into the ear canal rather than a cushioned pad. There are several designs now available but the ones I have are standard round buds which I find difficult to keep in my ear. They are not suitable for use on the go such as when running as they simply burst out. The newer products have in-ear hook shapes which can add stability or tapered ends which help the plug to sit further down the ear canal. I do not find the buds particularly comfortable to wear either since they feel quite hard despite the softer rings around the edge of the bud.
Each bud is marked with R and L for right and left ear. The ends of the cable are covered in a white rubber which, in my experience, is quick to get dirty and then deteriorate. The rubber actually seems to melt over time and will come away in chunks.
I have never thought the quality of these earphones was very good. First of all the earphones allow a lot of noise to filtrate through as you are wearing them. They do not block out unwanted outside distractions. I could not even wear these on public transport without hearing the hum of the bus engine. They also provide a very tinny and restrained sound quality. Music sounds as though it has no bass and it's difficult to achieve a volume with which I am comfortable with listening to. The earphones, in my opinion, do not provide anything like a decent listening experience. I find this a little strange since Apple are experts at designing devices that provide music to consumers.
There are many other brand replicas of these Apple earphones which work just as well and which cost half the price and if you are really not bothered about getting a deep and meaningful sound experience from your devices I would advise buying one of these copies and not the real thing.
You can choose from several styles of official Apple earphones, some are plain earphones like these and others are designed to be more interactive with your phone and have a microphone and volume control built into the wire. It goes without saying that the earphones will fit other phones and music players, I have seen many people using non Apple products with Apple in ear earphones and that makes me question their sanity because they could get better for less and why pay for Apple earphones when you do not even have an iPod for them to go into?
The earphones are white but so are other brands of earphone now so these are no longer the status symbol they once were.
The quality of sound when using these earphones is good but bass can be muffled, this occurs usually when the earphones have been used but some music does not sound as good through these as through other earphones. I am not a musical expert so don't know the phrases to use but sometimes I listen to something through my Apple earphones and then through another brand of earphones and there is a slight difference for the worst, it is not acute enough to be noticed all the time but is very obvious on some songs and musical pieces.
Comfort is good but not perfect, when I use them while exercising they make my inner ear ache after a time. I exercise for longer periods than average and some earphones affect me like this but I didn't expect these standard Apple ones to, these seem to start feeling uncomfortable towards the end of a long work out so when my skin is hotter and that is when they start feeling like they're rubbing.
The longevity of Apple in ear earphones is what gets to me because they don't last as long as expected and sometimes break after a very short period of use. For that reason alone I would not make a repeat purchase but it's nice to have the official ones that are included when I buy a new iPhone or iPod and I will use them irregularly until the sound starts to fade and turn tinny as it invariably does.
My last pair of standard in ear Apple earphones were bundled with other accessories and I believe these are also still included as standard with iPods and iPhones but am happy to be corrected if that has changed since my last purchase.
Good earphones with amazing sound which you would expect from a pair of headphones!
I had to buy these after my pair of MIE2i packed in after 2 years of everyday use! but it was my fault as to why they broke.
Anyway the build quality is spot on and I love the fact Bose still include the hard carry case as its quite handy for traveling or if you dont want them to get wet of tangled in your back or pockets. The anti -tangle cable is...I suppose better than standard cable as they still tangle but are easily untangled if that makes any sense? The stayhear tips are well designed and Im glad they didn't change them phew...apart from the price tag of I think £5 for I believe 2 pairs? BUT you have to pay £3 shipping! you get 3 pairs with these headphones Small, Medium and large in my case I found that the medium are just a tad too big and the small are a tad too small -__-.
The sound quality is amazing! well worth the money and beautifully tuned to perfection (someone explain why so many negative reviews about this area) The only way you can decide for yourself is to go and demo a pair (any Bose shop or most) or just go all out and buy some and ill put my money on it you wont be disappointed. Don't be worried about getting them wet as Ive dropped them in the bath still work, dropped them in a glass of orange still work and always wear them in the rain still work.
One more thing apple has a 2 year warranty on all of their products and must be the best warranty going to date! if you have any problems whatsoever just give Bose a email then phone them (free) give them the serial number and then they will send you a freepost envelope which if I can remember correctly gets posted to Belgium and from there they pretty much just send you a brand new pair (the same for any Bose product) this usually takes about 10 days.
Any questions feel free to ask I hope you enjoy!
The basic Apple In Ear earphones are the ones provided with iProducts, or rather they used to be but these days you tend to get the earphones that have a microphone attached when it's a phone you've purchased. I've had a few sets as although I don't use an iPod myself my teenagers are converts but neither of them like Apple earphones so they always get passed to mum.
It's a good job I'm not too fussy as these seriously aren't the best quality earphones on the planet, one side usually turns tinny and irritating within a few short weeks of use (and believe me I'm by no means a heavy earphone user so that's not terribly regular use).
Sound quality is good but the fit of the earphones isn't comfortable in my ears, which is unusual as most other earphones I've used/am using fit fine - these just feel too *something*, I'm not sure if it's too long or just generally too bulky but I find these harder than usual to keep in my ears and when they're in they feel a bit 'eugh'.
The thing no one else ever mentions about Apple earphones is the fact that they can go a bit grey if you're the sort of person who keeps messing with either the bits in your ears (it's impossible not to mess when they constantly feel like they're falling out!) or, like me, you fiddle with the cable. After a short time they start looking grubby and once that happens they're pretty much impossible to get cleaned up again to their original bright white.
I wouldn't rush out and buy a set of Apple In Ear earphones as frankly the quality overall doesn't match up with the £12 price tag, I'd rather spend less for equal quality or spend more for improvement in comfort (or actually even cheaper earphones are more comfortable than this).
When you buy an Apple phone or IPod you will usually receive a set of their white branded earphones. They her a bad press but as earphones they're good but could last longer.
Some have a built in mic and some don't but most new models have volume control. The cable is light so will not drag the buds out of your ears, not too light as to feel weightless and of poor quality though.
Quality of sound is always good and strong. My experience of listening to most audio through Apple in-ear earphones has always been positive at all volumes and for all genres.
With regular daily use a set of Apple earphones will last around 4 months but the onus is always on you the user to keep them in good condition and look after them as well as you can.
The buds are comfortable and always have been from the first set of Apple earphones I owned. The bud style and shape changes but they remain well fitting and comfortable through all these changes.
Just before the earphones fail the sound will become fuzzy and this is always a very good indication that they are not going to last for much longer.
To buy a set of Apple earphones without purchasing Apple hardware costs between £10 - £15, a good price for quality earphones even if longevity is a problem. They don't have the same status as they used to but I think they still have a sense of style that other brands don't have even if the copy the iconic white design.
Having already reviewed the old Apple earphones, I would now like to introduce the new Apple earpods headphones that come along with every Ipod/Iphone bought or that can be purchased separately. The price for the latter is approximately £25. We actually have two of these headphones as my husband owns an Iphone5 and my mother bought them to be used with her Ipad.
The dooyoo picture is somewhat outdated as the headphones are now in a simple yet stylish white. The little greyish rubbish protection from the first versions has been removed (most likely as it broke too often) and was replaced with an extended, white plastic protection. You can find a remote and mic at about 20 centimeter from the plugs. The earphones come in a little travel case in the shape of a box. This case can be used to protect the headphones on the move and is a new item; so you no longer need to buy a separate case to protect your Apple earphones. In general, the quality of the material used looks better than the ones used in previous versions of Apple earphones.
++++ My opinion ++++
The earpods can be used for all Apple products and any other products that feature a normal Audio-Out access. I personally like the simple design of the earphones, but I would prefer if they had offered it in different colors as well as I like my earphones black. Nevertheless, it is not the design which is most important. More importantly are wearing comfort and sound quality.
The wearing comfort is a tricky issue. The earphones all come in a standard size. I actually do not like the one-fits-them-all approach and the earplugs look bulky and rather big to me. That is why I was pleasantly surprised wearing the earphones as they feel comfortable and most of all not too big. I can move around without them falling off. Apple calls this comfort meeting the geometry of the ear. However, when doing sports the earphones keep on falling out.
The sound quality is another tricky issue as it depends on the vantage point one takes. If I consider getting the earphones as a part of an Iphone order I'd be happy with the quality. The sound is clear and precise. But in fact, Apple is advertising that the earpods can easily be compared to more expensive earphones. Comparing the Apple earpods with my Senneheiser earphones I must say that Apple may have taken more than they can chew. Despite being advertised, the earpods fail to deliver a holistic sound experience with isolation of outside noises. The bass is missing the depth and seems rather shallow. The saturation of tunes is average compared to more expensive models of earphones and lacks richness. The isolation of outside noises increases by volume which is not a brilliant feature on its own as other earphones deliver great isolation even with no music being played.
Last but not least, the remote control certainly is a nice gimmick and in particular Iphone users will find it very useful. For Ipad-users like me it is a nice but not essential feature. In any case, the quality of the mic is good. I never faced any challenges understanding my husband whenever he is calling. His voice is clear and not disturbed by other noises around.
+++ Conclusion ++++
If I was to buy the earpods separately, I would certainly be disappointed with the sound quality as there are other, better option within that price range. But the quality of the earpods is good should you get the earpods as a part of your Apple order. They are robust and feature a simple design. The mic works well. Yet, you should not expect a holistic or overwhelming sound experience.
These simple looking headphones by the huge name of Apple are a nice alternative to the standard headphones that I got with all of my Apple products. I do prefer these to the standard model that rest in the nook of the ear as THEY don't block out any exterior noise. These on the other hand do help block out some of the exterior noise yet they are not officially noise cancelling earphones and don't feature any form of noise cancelling technology. These soft topped headphones must actually be gently inserted into the opening of the ear and pushed slightly into the ear canal. These creates a seal that keeps the music inside and the noise outside. I always find it rude when someone is listening to their music source on the bus or any other form of public transport and you can either hear every word of their overly loud music or a distorted version constantly by your side. That irritating noise is the result of badly fitting earphones, the music being too loud, cheap ear or headphones or all three.
These little bud style earphones on the other hand if the music is played at a reasonable level will not interfere with your fellow travellers. And seeing that there is a good seal and the music is closer to the eardrum you will not need to have it as loud as you would if using ear up style Earphones.
The part that enters the ear is lovely and soft as I have never experienced nor suffered from ear irritation of any kind. The product as a whole has that very distinctive and very sought after Apple look. Just having the White lead trailing in to your jacket will let people know you are using an Apple device of some kind. These little guys will work in a standard iPod, iPod Touch, iPod shuffle, iPhone and even all three iPads. That's something I found strange when I received my iPad there are no earphones whatsoever included with it, so pick up these if you are thinking of getting one.
Stylish looks and fashion trends aside, sound is of course THE most important thing when it comes to earphones. Well let me put it this way, they won't rock your world. These are small in size but not in sound. They can pack quite a punch if you turn the volume up high enough (which I do not recommend) but that said they can't compare to high end ear cup style headphones. However they do a great job at making my music sound crisp, clear and sharp. These are not going to distort your music. Base is good, not great but it is plenty for a sound source that is going to be so close to your eardrum. Another thing that works in their favour compared to big, chunky headphones is of course the fact of how easily transportable they are. These will roll up in to a tiny ball when they are no longer required as the lead is soft and pliable.
These really are a decent set of headphones I wouldn't use these to listen to my hi-fi for example but for music on the go I think they do a fine job.
I bought these earphones from a store in Manchester Arndale. They were the official Apple ones and not some cheap copy. I paid £19.99 for mine. I don't mind paying extra for quality.
They are better in terms of sound quality as they fit better inside your ear and they drown out excess noise from the outside. The earphones have soft buds which your push right inside your ear. Some people may be put off by this but they're actually really easy to fit and they're really comfortable too. The natural shape of your ear helps to keep the earphones in place. The sound quality is excellent as the buds drown out excess noise, making them focus on the music ONLY. The clarity is fantastic. These are excellent quality earphones and if you look for them on auction sites they're usually much cheaper. Just beware of fakes.
I use these in my iPod Touch and my iPod Nano 5th gen. You can also use them in standard mp3 players. It's an average sized jack that you just plug in and go. They're easy to set up, it takes seconds to fit them!
I would recommend these eaphones. They don't fall out of your ear like some earphones can and they're so comfy to use. They make all music genres sound fantastic and they look great too, very sleek and stylish.
These ear phones are very comfortable and do not cause pain when worn for long periods of time as other ear phones can. The sound quality is sufficiently good as is the ease of use. Unlike other apple earphones the end of these earphones does not succumb quite so quickly to wear and tear. The rubber heads do mean that when the cord becomes tangled it is slightly harder to untangle them but this is a minor point. The main disadvantage of these earphones is that they are not useful for listening to music during sport. Although they come with different sizes of rubber heads they fall out easily when jogging. However for a long bought of listening such as on a long distance plane journey they are a good buy. The pricing is slightly on the high end but these apple ear phones are more value for money than other apple earphones.
I've never been able to use the standard headphones which come with iPods, they're just not comfortable and don't fit in my ear properly.
I purchased a pair of the in-ear headphones a couple of years ago. They come in a handy little box with a few different sizes of the rubber ear pieces.
I find the headphones very durable; I had my first pair for over a year until I lost them, they were still working well after frequent usage.
I recently purchased my second pair of iPod in ear headphones to replace my previous Phillips headphones which broke after a few months.
I'm no headphone expert but I'm happy with the sound quality these headphones provide.
I like the design of the headphones; they look sleek unlike some other in ears on the market. The wire is quite firm which seems to prevent it tangling too much, there's nothing worse than having to unknot your headphones before every use!
When they're in your ear they feel very comfortable and they block out a lot of background noise. Unlike other headphones they dont create a lot of noise outside the headphones which makes the useful when using them in a public place.
As normal headphones do not fit in my ear as myear canals are very small i found these to be the perfect solution. They are quite costly and as the wire is no different to other headphones they break really easily so they arenot cost effective. Sound wise they are really helpful as they have 3 sizes of plug that come with the headphones meaning you can fit them to suit your own ear (i needed the smallest!) They fit well although some people say they are slightly uncomfortable andfeel wierd although i have never experienced this problem. They keep other sounds out around you which is really great and the sound quality is really good. All you can hear is the music and even with just one headphone in the sound is really clear even not on a high volume which i don't have it on. There are, however, a few problems with these headphones. Firstly theear buds come off REALLY easy and so are so easy to lose. Secondly, they are really hard to clean cos of all the bumps in the headphone part. The joiner is really cheap and not easily adjustable. Finally the ear buds make my ears really hot as they take up all the room and so i cannot have them in for too long.
I purchased these to replace the ones that arrived with my ipod and for £25 its fair to say i was expecting big things from theses earphones, sadly they did not deliver, although they are better than the stock ones you get....just.
The earphones arrive in a nice little box and inside you get 3 different ear bud attachments, dependent upon the size of your inner ear, which is great because this helps block out, outer sound and improves the quality of music. This for me was the only thing these earphones did well that the stock ones didnt do. Once you had these earphones in the only thing you could hear was the music, which is fantastic because it sounds so much clearer and crisp, and because theres no outer sound you can have you volume lower which saves battery life on your ipod.
Unfortunately thats where the plus points stop. The sound quality is almost identical if not the same as the stock earphones and the bass response is very weak, especially for the price, the quality is nothing special and id say at times it can be a little fuzzy as i found out by listening to just ordinary house music, nothing heavy at all.
On the whole these are NOT worth the money, save your pennies!!
