Apple iPod Earphones
Advantages: Looks nice
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long compared to other brands
I've had a few mp3 players over the years, and one of them was an Apple shuffle.
With this apple shuffle was provided some earphones.
They came in the box, wrapped nicely with a bit of plastic over it to keep it held together.. being my first experience with an Apple product and their earphones, I thought they would be fine.. my previous mp3 players all came with some earphones too.. but they didn't last long and I had to buy my own.
I didn't think this would also happen with Apple's earphones... it's an Apple product, there meant to be great quality and long-lasting and reliable. Wrong.
That's what I first thought anyway.. I used them for a bit and they were fine. They come in white, which is the only colour i've seen them in - they are pretty recognisable compared to other earphones. You can spot an Apple earphone from afar. Maybe it's the nice looking white and the slim design. Looks pretty great. I mean look at the picture above, they do look nice, they certainly give the impression to be high quality.
But i'm afraid after owning two of these earphones alongside many other earphones that haven't been worth the money - I just wouldn't recommend them or pay £10 for them in the Apple shop. I found they don't last long, the rubber seals on the edge of the earphones fall apart - i'm not sure how, as it's not as i've been tearing away at them, my guess would be they just aren't up for being kept around in your bag. Once the rubber seals wear away I found them to be really uncomfortable - needing to be replaced soon anyway as without the seals in one piece they don't look good nor feel right.
I then as some point went to the Apple shop and purchased some more, and these lasted a few months until one earpiece stopped working. No warning, no crackling noise from the earpiece.. just nothing, no sound coming from it at all - which began to feel annoying. I then gave up on these earphones, I had previously had a pair of Sony earphones (see older review) and they lasted a year. I found the Apple earphones to not last as long compared to them and also preferred my previous Sony ones instead of the Apple product and so did not bother buying them again.
I give these earphones 3/5 stars due to the poor quality, I found they do not last long compared to some other earphones available and I would not recommend these over my current earphones. However some people don't mind having to replace them often as they buy them for the Apple brand and for it to go with their ipod - that's fine, but I wouldn't recommend buying them from the Apple shop and to look elsewhere online as they would be cheaper.
Overall they do work, and the sound quality of them is good but because they do not last long without falling apart, i'd say to only buy these if you really want them for the Apple brand. The earphones are fine when they come free with the mp3 player, but I wouldn't pay more for another pair unless I found them cheaper online. Though I do think it's good to end this review with one point I do think is good about the earphones, and that's that the earphones have a straight wire at the end which easily allows it to be plugged into Apple's products. Most other earphones have a curve at the end, where the earphones get plugged in. This can make the earphones be plugged in at a weird angle with some products, and so if your using an Apple product and it has a cover on it - other earphones may be harder to plug in. But i'm guessing Apple knew that all along and want you to only use their earphones.
Summary: I'm not a fan
