ME AND THESE EARPHONES
These earphones came together with the iPhone 3GS that I bought, I used them for about two years before I moved onto a pair of cheap Panasonic earphones. Believe it or not the Panasonic earphones were almost as good as these.. says very much about what I think about these!
These earphones are white, with some greys at the rims of the ear piece and elsewhere. It's very much the very sleek Apple colours, so you definitely look quite cool using them (and people will almost definitely know that they're the Apple earphones). The earphones come with a grey padding that you can put around the earpiece, which makes the earphones quite comfortable to wear. However, this padding is perhaps not very sturdy because over some wear and tear I accidentally made a hole in them and had to get replacements. There is a little clip that you can adjust and decide how long of the left and the right sides that you would like to clip together, which is quite a handy tool. There is also a volume adjuster so you necessarily have to scuff for your iPhone in your bag to adjust the volume - just do it on the earphone itself.
Soundwise, these earphones are decent if you're just listening to some casual music. Pop, normal rock, ambience -it's all fine. The problem comes when you're trying to listen to classical music - the balance just isn't right. In my opinion it sounds like it might be lacking an emphasis on the bass - so some music just sounds kind of 'fleety' with these earphones. The range of adjustable volume of these earphones are quite reasonable for most music as well. Considering that these aren't in-ears, do expect that it will be difficult to listen to your music if there's quite a bit of ambience sounds.
Durability is probably the biggest problems of these earphones. I know I shouldn't be complaining since these came free with the iPhone, but I would really have expected much better from Apple! After a few months I started having some trouble getting music to play on both sides, and it takes quite a bit of clever maneuvering and having the wires in a certain direction to get the earphones to function normally. And after a few months more the volume control started going bonkus, and they virtually became useless after a year. After a year of usage I finally gave up.
I suppose that you could use these if you haven't got any other ones - maybe as spares or just temporary replacements. But for good music, audio comforts, finding something better will be my advice for you.
Summary: Would not specially recommend this product, but it is okay as a spare.
