Apple iPod Earphones
Advantages: Complimentary with some products, Reasonable sound quality
Disadvantages: Not value for money on their own
These were the earphones that came included in a number of my older iPods, and my iPhone 4S. However an important note to consumers is that they DO NOT come with any of the iPad models.
The earphones themselves only come in one colour - white, and these earphones are synonymous with the Apple brand. The earphone lead length is fine and it is not flimsy, and doesn't feel like it could tear, as is sometimes the case with other brands of earphones, even more expensive ones. The actual earphone or ear bud bit fits my ear perfectly. I am always uncomfortable when using the headphones that push right into your ear, whereas these ones sit just a bit further back. One negative point to this is that they are from noise cancellation! (They are not claimed to be). You have to push the volume right up to cancel out background noise, however because they sit outside your ear canal, the noise of your music will propagate to people around you!
The earphones, particularly the slightly newer versions, include the remote control. This is really handy and an excellent feature which allows volume alteration and music controls. It is simple to use, you just press it in different ways. It is important to note that these headphones are compatible with all devices with a 3.5mm jack, and not exclusively Apple devices.
I was quite impressed with the sound quality coming from these headphones, when I first experienced them a few years ago, without having used other top end earphones. Now, I appreciate that they are not as good as other competition but we must consider they are given away complimentary. However, when you are paying over £450 for the iPhone 4S, you would think they could include better headphones. Now, they have been replaced in some new devices with new Apple earbuds.
Audio expects and music engineers will not enjoy using these headphones. But for me and you they will be fine. You definitely won't experience bad quality sound, but they aren't excellent either. The headphones can be purchased in Apple stores as accessories, but to be honest, unless they are free with your product don't buy them. For the RRP of over £25, you can get much better!
Summary: Be pleased when they are included, otherwise not so much
