Apple iPod Earphones
Advantages: Good sound, good look, last well, price
Disadvantages: Peeling rubber, fall out sometimes, fancier now available
I have owned my Apple iPod Earphones since Christmas 2008 when I was given my iPod touch. This makes them five years old and still going strong. During this time I would say they have been used a couple of times a week, mainly on my lunch break at work. I tend to take care of my stuff so have kept them with my iPod in a separate pocket of my bag and avoid using them in the rain.
- The Look -
The earphones themselves are quite small and discreet, measuring approximately 1cm in diameter. The little panel where the sound comes from is silver in colour. The casing is made from a hard white plastic and there is some light grey coloured rubber detail. This has peeled quite badly on my pair but then they are five years old. Each earphone has an L for left and a R for right to indicate which ear they should be placed in. The earphones are attached to a white wire which leads to the attachment you connect into the iPod.
- The Sound -
I think the sound quality is quite good for earphones. I'm sure there is better available but I think for the price and the age of them it is good and perfectly adequate for listening to music on my lunch break. At home our sound systems are good quality systems by Denon and Bose so in comparison listening to music on my iPod through these earphones is going to be a far inferior quality but it is still of a fairly good standard.
- The Feel -
I find wearing these earphones to be comfortable and it doesn't cause me any problems to have them in my ears for an hour. I like that they are very light weight. They stay in quite well but aren't a perfect fit for my ears so they do fall out sometimes. This is mildly irritating but not a huge problem to me. I think it would be more of a problem if I tried to use them while exercising. They just about stay in my ears while walking but I'm not sure they would do so well if I was running.
- Ease of Use -
I find using these earphones very easy. It is easy to attach it into my iPod and easy to place them into my ear. Thanks to the L and R it is easy to get them in the correct ear too. They are light so easy to move around with and travel with. I find the wire gets tangled quite easily but I try to avoid this by wrapping it neatly around my iPod.
- Durability -
I think these earphones have lasted well. The white doesn't look as clean as it used to and some of the rubber has worn away but overall they still look good. I don't think the sound quality has deteriorated but I don't have a new pair to compare them to.
- Price and Availability -
It seems you can buy a new set for as little as £1.24 on Amazon. This is a bargain but then there are more up to date versions available now.
- Would I Recommend -
I would recommend these earphones. They look good, sound good and last a long time. They may not be as fancy as newer models but they are good reliable earphones and they suit my needs well.
Summary: Not the latest version but they are good reliable headphones
