I bought these ear phones 2 years ago and have had absolutely no trouble with them. They are extremely durable as I have knocked them about in bags and pockets. Not only this but the sound that you get from them is absolutely amazing. Its bass is full yet not false or overpowering. I was listening to some artists and it was only when I listened to them through these earphones that I quite realised the level of reverb in some sections. As you can imagine it unearthed unknown layers of beauty from previously listen albums. They have pretty decent sound blocking attributes which means you don't have to listen to the constant drone of the train or the endless crying of a child on the bus! The colour is fine and they blend in more than the white Ipod headphones which not only means you may well be less likely to be mugged but you also look less like an apple geek. Not that that matters as no matter what the sound on these incredible. Well worth the price I paid.
The Denon AH-C551 are a reasonably priced in ear headphone designed from a Machined aluminium for the ultimate in quality and strength. The earphones include a acoustic optimiser for ideal sound characteristics.
They are a Canal typed earphone that have the added feature of being noise isolating, meaning they block out noises from the outside world. The earphones include a small carry case with included rubber attachments depending on how wide the opening of your ear is, there is small, medium and large sizes available.
My experience using these earphones
After living with the standard earphones that shipped with the ipod for over 2 years, i decided it was time to go for something a little more expensive, something that would give me a little more Oooomph when listing to my music. I scoured the internet for hours upon end looking for a pair of earphones that were under £100 and good quality, good sound and small enough. Finally i came across the Denon AH-C551 after reading many reviews on several websites these seemed to be the best option. Many websites were saying these were in the top 3 for earphones under £100. I received the headphones a few days after ordering them.
The earphones were packaged well and looked very attractive in and out of the plastic. I chose the write size of rubber attachment to fit my size ear, then hooked them up to my ipod. I was very happy with the outcome, the sound was extremely clear, crisp and packed a punch, i was surprised at the amount of base that these little earphones produced. I am extremely suppressed at the way these headphones isolate the outside world, if your listing to music on the bus or train, you cannot hear anything else unless someone really shouts.
The earphones fit into the ear really well because of the 3 size options available, they seem to stay in the ear during most activities.
Overall if you are looking for a pair of earphones that are great quality, look stylish and are comfortable. As well as great sounding, noise isolating and affordable go for these.
I love these earphones and i wouldn't replace them unless i was spending a few hundred pounds on earphones, which is unlikely.
I highly recommend these to any one.

These headphones are the best I've ever owned. They are ideal for those who can't afford shelling out hundreds of pounds, but are fed up with the usual average quality stuff found in the high street.
The earphones are of the canal type, which means if you fit them correctly you won't be able to hear much of what is going on around you - ideal if you get fed up of listening to idle chatter. They are supplied with the usual large, med and small pieces of rubber to fit around the phone. I also use them at the gym, and they hold well (although without going into too much detail gym goers will know that earphones may slip out of the ear, due to 'pressure'). There have been complaints about the size of the 2 cables supplied - the extension cable they say is too long and the main cable too short. Well, the short cable will suit you well if you put it in your shirt or inside jacket pocket. The extenstion cable isn't overly long for my taste, I use it often and it does not get in the way.
The sound quality is excellent, for a mid range priced pair, they punch well above their weight. Very crisp sound and the bass is not overly strong. If you are interested in detailed analysis of the sound you can find reviews on the net, but trust me when I say you won't be disappointed with the sound.
As far as looks are concerned they are fine. If you want a pair of innocuous headphone these are ideal.
One last comment, I have stood on them a couple of times by mistake and they are tough enough to take that kind of damage. The L and R and Denon logo written on the earphones themselves do wear out though.
Denon have a fantastic reputation as making some of the best hi-fi and audio equipment these headphones definitely do not disappoint. Some of the features i particularly like are the in ear canal-type design, which brings the music directly into your ear which also helps to reduce ambient noise and lets you enjoy the music to its full potential, they also use an "acoustic optimizer" to balance out the pressure that builds up behind and in front of the driver for a more natural sound, this brings out ideal acoustic characteristics in general they have a full and crisp sound quality. They come with a hard case and the same set of three rubber fittings - large, medium and small. They use a gold plated stereo mini jack for a high quality connection they also have a very cool and useful tangle-resistant cable. overall a good solid set of headphones.
