Advantages: Sound,
Disadvantages: Leaks out noise
**Introduction**
After the wire on my cherised Sennheiser PX100's snapped a few months ago I decided to have a look around for a new pair of headphones and after a tough decision opted for Goldring's DR50's. I wasnt that aware of the Goldring brand at the time as I had been a regular customer of Sennheiser headphones but decided on the cheaper option as opposed to upgrading to Sennheiser's outstanding noise reduction headphones.
**Goldring**
Goldring have a very strong reputation for headphones after years of success with various different types of headphones. The company dates back to 1906 When the Scharf Brothers began manufacturing in Berlin, Germany. Goldring started of making record players and then branched out. The DR50's were released in 2006 along with two other award winning headphones, These two are the more expensive DR100 & DR150 headphones
**The DR50**
As you can see from the picture, these headphones are the large cans which are used by djs and hi-fi enthusiasts. You can pick up a pair in your local hi-fi shop for around £30 and I have even seen them online for £24.99 which is a great price considering the quality of these headphones and the well deserved reputation they hav gained since their release two years ago. The good thing about these headphones compared to some is that they have a 3m cable length which gives you a lot more flexibility. This cable disconnects from the headphones which allows you to change the length with a different cable depending on where you are listening.
**The Sound**
The sound of these headphones is superb, a really punchy bass is joined by the crisp detail with vocals and instruments meaning they are excellent for any type of music due to their numerous talents on offer. One slight drawback to these headphones is that they do leak out sound quite a lot so don't have them to loud so not to disturb other passengers on a train or coach. As these will be mostly worn for home use this shouldnt put you off these headphones as these are one of the class leaders.
**Product Specification DR50**
Impedance: 32 Ohms
Frequency Response: 32Hz - 20kHz
Total Harmonic Distortion: Below 1%
Sound Pressure Level: 107db
Weight (with cable): 305g
**Overall**
These are a fine pair of budget headphones which give you a superb sound with comfort and are one of the class leaders in the budget sector. If you travel a lot like me then it may be worth spending a little more and opting for the Sennheiser PXC 300, I have seen these headphones for anywhere between £79.99 and £91.99 so look around and you could pick up a bargain. If you are on a budget and will mostly use headphones for home listening then opt for the Goldring DR50.
Summary: Great pair of headphones.
