Advantages: Cheap(ish), colourful, relatively good sound
Disadvantages: Not as high quality sound as you may want, break easily
I bought these when my iPod headphones broke (wouldn't be the first time, sorry Apple but I do not get on with your headphones... But, I digress). They were of a reasonable price - usually between £5 and £10 which I don't mind paying for a decent set of headphones.
They come in blister packaging (ouch!) and when trying to cut it open with scissors I was terrified of cutting the wires instead... I didn't though and managed to get it. All it has in it is the plastic inner packaging to keep the ear buds in place and a card slip giving basic information about the product. To be fair, for a pair of headphones such as these nothing else is really required.
These headphones I have found to be mostly very good! The sound quality is as expected for a simple set of earphones - though if you are a big fan of music you may prefer an expensive over-head set, apart from anything else I find if I wear earphones for too long it makes my ears sore, so if you're going to spend much time listening to music, definely look into other types. I have owned several pairs of these however due to extensive use (and probably abuse by shoving them into my pocket/bag roughly) the wires seem to come loose and therefore the sound goes in one or both of the ear buds. Obviously this is major impairment to the experience and I have to replace them. They usually last me at least 6 months to a year before this happens though. However, I have had one pair that were damaged when I got them out of the packet - unfortunately it was a packet I didn't know I had so it had passed it's returns availability so I cannot comment on how easy it is to get a replacement...
As I said I bought these to go with my iPod (Nano 4g), and I really liked that I could get different colours of these headphones to go with it, as I have a purple iPod, I got the purple ones and the colour does match relatively well. Though, I do know a lot of people who have decided to be kooky and go for completely random colours. I think the choice of colour and therefore capability to be individual adds to the charm of the product - much more interesting than everyone having plain white!
Definitely a product I would recommend if you need headphones and haven't got much of a budget... However, if you are serious about how good your music sounds and aren't bothered about how much space it takes to carry them round, it may be better for you to look around for over-head styles instead of ear bud types.
Summary: Cheap alternative to iPod headphones, looks great with iPod or music devices!
