Advantages: Cheap, reliable, look good in a variety of colours
Disadvantages: The wire isn't as long as i'd like
After a few pretty awful experiences with Apple headphones on my I-pod, I decided to go with the philosophy of buy a much cheaper set of headphones and see how long they last.
Well so far this set have lasted me much longer than some of the more expensive variants on the market and whilst they don't offer some of the sound balancing qualities of more expensive brands, they are reliable, good quality and cheap, when these finally pack up i'll replace them with another pair as they are so good.
Available on Amazon for under a fiver this brand of earphones are made by JVC so are a decent brand renowned for reliable quality, they arrive in a small plastic see through bag, so you know this is all about the product and not the merchandising.
They don't look like much, you have the plug for your i-pod, a plastic wire measuring around 1m 20cm, (which is fine, but for me sometimes means I have to have my i-pod in a front trouser pocket or jacket pocket as it can be too taut in my back pocket), a moveable piece of plastic which allows you to decide when the wire splits into two and the small angular, curved rubber earphones, which are helpfully marked L and R to put in your ears. It is easy to see how to put the headphones in as the larger curved angle is to face forwards, tucking into your ear for a perfectly comfortable fit. I have to admit I have none of the problems I used to have with earphones falling out, and also the rubber wiring has stood firm whereas in the past i've had earphones fall off, the rubber casing rip and sound quality dip with more expensive models.
Sound quality is great, the curving of the earphone means the sound goes directly into your ear and does block most things out, but it is clear, as loud of quiet as required and neither tinny or too bassy. There isn't any option to change any of the sound settings, but then nor should there be for under £5.
The headphones come in a variety of colours to match I-Pods, I have a plain I-Pod and chose purple headphones, they look nice and provide a nice contrast to the phone, but for the flashier music fan you could easily choose the pink, green, black, yellow or white headphones.
The only issue I would ever have with these is the length of the wire, and extra 50cm would mean they can fit in even the tallest persons pocket comfortably without stress, but this is a small gripe, as the product works perfectly and I just have to keep my i-pod in a front pocket, which isn't a huge hassle.
Overall I really rate these, they are cheap, very reliable, offer a good sound quality and in comparison to the more expensive I-Pod earphones these are vastly superior, I would recommend them to anyone who needs a quality alternative at a low price, or to anyone who wants a matching accessory for their I-Pod Nano. They look good, sound good and work well, what more could you ask for?
