I purchased these JVC Lightweight Headphones from the Amazon website for a bargain price of £5.99. I did search quite a bit before buying these headphones, as the previous ones I had were a generic brand that cost me only £2-3 and although they lasted a year, I decided it was time to invest slightly more money on a well known branded pair of headphones that would last me many years and delivery good quality sound. My budget was £6-7 therefore I was quite surprised to find that a pair of ear covering headphones are quite difficult to find at that price, with most starting from £10. These JVC headphones are for sale on play.com for £10, Tesco for £7.50, Trove £14, and Argos for 14.99. Amazon are still selling these at £5.99, so grab a bargain while it lasts!

These JVC HA-L50 Headphones have an over the ear design. It comes in range of different colours including white, blue, black, red etc. The headphones I own have a black coloured finish and are made from hard plastic material. The Headphones are foldable, where the left and right over ear parts can be folded inwards when not in use. The over ear areas are padded like most over the ear headphones and are securely fitted on. The left and right sides are clearly labelled with 'R' and 'L', and have the JVC brand name and model number also printed on the side of each over ear piece.
The top half of the headphones that sits on the head is coloured a dark grey colour, and the lower part which consists of the over ear parts are coloured a black glossy colour. The headphone size is fully adjustable. It comes with a 1.5m long cable and a standard headphone connector jack.
**** The Folding Feature ****
The headphones come packaged in a small transparent plastic packaging, with the headphones folded inside. I was surprised to find such a small package for a pair of over ear headphones, and the fact that the headphones were packaged folded clearly demonstrated how the over ear pieces are folded and unfolded into place. It was very easy to unfold the ear pieces back into the normal position, but I remember hearing a slight click sound when doing this which made me a little bit worried about the durability of the folding mechanism. I however tend to leave the headphones as they are and very rarely fold them, but I can imagine this feature being very useful when travelling and wanting to fit these headphones easily into a small handbag. As once folded it takes up very little room in bags etc.
**** Weight & Adjusting Size ****
The headphones are very lightweight, and weigh approx 64g (stated on the packaging). The build is a little flimsy, but not too flimsy that it would break easily, instead I think as long I take care when using these headphones and not throw them around they should last a while. The headphones are fully adjustable so they can fit small petite heads like mine, or those with larger heads. The size is very easy to adjust, simply pop the headphones on your head and pull the over head pieces on both sides downwards until it is in the right comfortable position.
**** Are They Comfortable To Wear? ****
The over ear pieces cover my ear really well allowing the upper part of my ear some breathing room. The padding is reasonably thick so you can't feel the plastic inner fittings, and instead allow these headphones to be worn comfortably. In fact I would go far as to say that when they are on, it doesn't even feel like I'm even wearing headphones, as they are so lightweight and have a thin over head design. My last earphones were quite bulky in size and after an hour of use I could always start to feel my head and ears begin to hurt, thankfully with these JVC headphones I can wear them for hours without any discomfort.
**** The Sound Quality ****
The sound quality is surprisingly good for a pair of headphones that only cost £6! The sound is clear and easy to hear. I wear these headphones mostly during the night when watching TV while my partner sleeps, and find it does the job better than expected. I can have the volume set to low and still the sound through the headphones is loud enough and clear. There is a slight background buzzing sound when using these with my TV set, but nothing that noticeable. All in all good quality sound from these headphones, and great for TV and mp3 player use.
**** Cord Length ****
The headphones have a 1.5m cord length which is fine for fitting to mp3 players and portable devices, but for a TV that is positioned quite far away it can be a problem. Thankfully I have a headphone extender cable that I used previously and only cost a couple of quid. Therefore the 1.5 m is not a problem for me and if you need a longer length cord I suggest getting an extension cord with a jack socket as they don't cost that much (depending on length required).
These are great headphones to use on a daily basis, as they are very comfortable to wear due to being so lightweight and produce good quality sound. They are also extremely portable due to the folding feature, ensuring they can fit small hand bags without any problems. Costing only £5.99 for these JVC branded headphones makes these an excellent buy, and therefore I rate these a brilliant 5/5.
The JVC HA-L50A is a lightweight and foldable stereo headphone. It offers simple and stylish design suitable for digital audio player. High quality sound with 30mm driver unit, and it has a 1.5-meter (4.9ft) cord.
