KitSound MUFKWHK Audio Earmuffs
Advantages: good sound, anti tangle cable
Disadvantages: cant wash cover
My daughter lives with one of her two iPods permanently glued to her head; her iPod tells her it would take over four days to listen to her entire music collection! She goes through headphones at an amazing rate and I am always buying her new pairs. One of those pairs was the Kit Sound audio earmuffs which cost me around £10 from Amazon but they are currently selling at £24.99. These are no ordinary headphones as they keep your ears warm as well as playing your favourite music!
These earmuffs are surprisingly small and light, at first my daughter was confused when she tried them on as she could not get them to stretch over her head and then she realised they are meant to be worn with the band at the nape of the neck. They do fit a teenager well and look good but mess up the hair a bit. The material which goes over the ears is a really soft faux fur material which is comfortable and warm. The knitted cover has a really nice design which unfortunately be removed for washing and if you have a pair of audio earmuffs in white then they will soon get dirty. They are available in black, white, grey, pink and purple.
The cable is round about a meter long which is just the right length to connect to an MP3 player or phone in a pocket, the cable can be removed leaving just the earmuffs. The best thing about these headphones is the fact that the cable is covered in some kind of material, it is hard to describe but it is like the hard wearing cord you would get on an outdoor jacket. This means the cable is strong and sturdy but is also non-tangle. How much time is wasted unravelling knots in headphones? I really wish they would make all cables with this kind of anti-tangle technology.
The sound quality on these headphones is surprisingly good. The midlevel sound is lovely and clear with no crackling or distortion meaning that lyrics are clear and bright. The bass is slightly weak but whether or not this annoys you will very much depend on what type of music you like to listen to. If you like techno type music then these are not for you but for most genres they perform really well. There is a built in volume control, the headphones do go to a reasonably loud volume but I have had headphones which are a lot louder. It may be annoying to some but reassuring to parents who want to protect their little darling's hearing.
Because these are not closed cup headphones there is a lot of leakage of sound both from the environment to the user and the other way around. If you are outside walking about wearing these ear muffs then this can be a good thing as you can listen to your music but still retain an awareness of what's going on around you. The leakage of sound to the environment isn't a huge deal but be warned that people around you may be able to hear the thump of the beat.
The audio earmuffs from Kit-Sound are a nice novel gift as well as a decent pair of headphones, if you can get them at around £10 they are a great price and I'm sure many teenagers would be delighted if Santa delivered them a pair this year.
Summary: Headphones and ear muffs in one.
