Advantages: Good sound quality, Comfortable
Disadvantages: Nothing to stand headphones on while charging
When I bought my 1st TV a number of years ago, one important aspect was to be able to have it on in the evenings and not disturb others in the house. So other than sitting directly under the TV - an uncomfortable method, not to mention eye damage(!) - the only reasonable option was cordless headphones. Well the set I have had since that time have now worn out - 1 ear stopped working and the foam wore off a long time ago. So it was time to buy some more! I wanted something that was cheap, but at the same time wanted to make sure they would be suitable for my purpose. Luckily these were the cheapest, and while the range is only 7 metres, it is easily sufficient for my uses, along with many others. On getting them home I set about charging them up. In general it was all fairly straightforward although it wasn't much different to my old set so I'm not sure how easy it would be for a "beginner". The main differences were you have to put batteries into the headset, but once these are in you don't need to remove them. The other thing, is the old transmitter was like a little tower, which as well as its obvious purpose, allowed the headphones to sit on top while charging. The transmitter with these headphones is a small oval shaped thing with the infrared lights in a row not column. The headphones themselves are very comfortable - much more than the old ones were even in the days they had foam - they completely surround the ear and fit to your head size. The sound quality is excellent for both Stereo and Mono uses (although Mono only comes out in 1 ear). Despite its small size and the above disadvantages, the transmitter works well and while it works best directly facing the headphones, it doesn't have to be exact. As far as durablity is concerned, I cannot say as I have only recently bought this set, but if the old pair, also by Phillips are anything to go by, and the foam on the ea
rpieces appears quite thick and strong, these should last quite some time. All in all I think they were a very good buy - at just under £20 - suitable for anyone who needs them for similar uses to mine or even to listen to something while moving around a room - 7 metres would be adequate for most purposes I can think of.

- 21/08/02 I couldn't quite give this a VU, the only reason being, a little more detail about them, i.e. how long they take to charge, how long the charge lasts, whether moving about the room affects them, what are they like in comparison to others, etc...if you update let me know and i'll rerate. |
