      solid headphone buy

My jobs in the last few years have required me to work with sound and editing, which means I have to use headphones a lot of the time for monitoring purposes. For absolute sound quality, I favour the Sennheisers, which I feel deliver on all levels. Studios I have worked in have included all manner of makes. Philips is a name that I return to, a name I can usually trust in too.

This pair are at the lower end of the price market, well I say lower. You will pay about twenty pounds for them, so that is a good sixty pounds off a Sennheiser set. What I liked, price aside, about this pair is the quality of sound that they offer for your money.

There is a sufficient depth of bass which cuts through on these and the closed muffs allow you to experience this is true detail. The bass is thunderous if you whack up the gain, while the treble arrives with a certain precise clarity and the higher end frequencies command attention too. The dynamic range is impressive, though I do feel certain hi hats don't sound quite as punchy with these on.

In terms of comfort, nice and comfy on the ears with plenty of movement for the studio professional to work with. The strap on the top also has enough give for those who like to play around with the head piece a lot, this is important to me as I am forever adjusting and fiddling! On the downside, a very long 3m cable can get in the way so either sellotape it up like I do in loops or get a shorter one. The standard fit jack will allow you to use these phones with any amp or mixing device. A good price, pretty high spec sound and nice fit makes these a good cheaper option for the casual user or for the studio pro.

      Must buy

Fantastic headset, really happy with them and are at a very reasonable price. Happy to stick with a brand that I know and trust, Philips always makes good quality products no matter what you are buying. The sound quality on this headset is great I am not really an expert when it comes to headsets but these are a good fit and provide a fantastic sound quality that I would expect when buying a pair of head phones. Really enjoy them and recommend these to all.
